Ooh, ooh! There's one here in Chicago (not mine) that's been for sale for a while.

Looks to hardly have been used. Heck, I'll drive it out to you if you pay for gas (gotta visit my parents anyhow.)

First, welcome to the forums.

I don't think the previous post is what you are looking for. All MY 2006 models have the "75th" embelem, but I think you're looking for this, correct?

custom vintage Airstream trailers

If so, you should be able to find one if you look off and on around the country. There were only 75 made, so it will be a challange.

Here's one:

Doubt this is one of the Special 75th Anniversary Bambi's. Don't think they were Internationals. All trailers made in 2006/2007 had a round 75th Anniversary Badge on them - I have a 2007 20' Safari that has it. But in the event it is - the price is a steal. Jump on it quick!

Bates RV in Tampa is showing to have a new one in stock...heck if he does...he might bring it to you...I know I would if I still had an 06 on the lot!

Try this...2006 Travel Trailer Airstream International 19

Tell Frank that Gene said to bring it to you!

Hi everybody...

I had been interested in the advertised 75th Bambi on the Bates site...emailed a salesperson back and forth, and was told that the unit DID have filiform corrosion...but that it was due to "not being waxed as we don't wax them on the lot"...

Hmmm...

I ended up getting the well known "bait and switch" from Bates. Turns out, just as we started talking more "seriously" about purchase, after supposedly 15 months on the lot, that the unit was suddenly sold...but that I could come in for "other" trailers that won't be near as good a deal because as I was told, "That was a manager's special price."

I had a strange feeling from the first couple emails...then after reading others' experiences with Bates, I wasn't shocked when the above happened. Seems they are famous for this.

BTW...someone else on this site posted that the 75th Bambi that Bates USED to have was indeed USED. When I tried to get Bates to clarify this, I couldn't get a straight answer...all in all, just too much runaround for me; especially when you're talking about the insane price and the apparent poor craftsmanship and corrosion of late.

Another thing...the same pics I was sent of a trailer from Bates are the ones showing up in some of the links above in Florida...with different dealers listed, or at least different names. I prefer things to be a bit more transparent and without question.

Good luck...just be warned.

Hi Noetic...

This is what scared me away from purchasing a new Airstream:

http://www.airforums.com/forums/f142...ams-31743.html

I was flabbergasted at what I read and saw...and checking my local Airstream dealer revealed that EVERY Airstream on the lot had the corrosion in several places.

Whether or not Bates actually had the 75th we emailed about didn't really matter regarding corrosion...fact was, the salesman was aware of it and blamed it on not waxing the units. He sent me several pictures of different trailers' taillights, hinges, handles, and aluminum panel seams. Not a pretty sight...I think when you spend $50-60k, the thing should at LEAST look NEW before you actually buy it.

Regarding craftsmanship...this forum is literally full of threads regarding what people have found regarding their trailers. When I went to my local dealer this past Monday, it was the little things...rust deposits in the rear bumper storage area, rusty screws, holes punched with no rivets in them, dings in the body around the rivets, sealant around windows cracking, chrome rings around taillights and clearance lights rotted and pitted, rust on the hitch, gaps between the cabinets and the walls, the plywood-look veneer (why would you want to make fake wood look like plywood of all things?) on the edges of the counters coming off...just things like that I don't expect for half the cost of a house.

You'll find out a LOT on the thread link above. It was enough to make me change my mind and say, "No thanks." Especially when you get to the later entries where Airstream is refusing ANY warranty work if they blame oxidation...

Again, just be warned.
