Looking for inspection in Southern Westchester, NY

Hi there,

I'm a newbie airstream enthusiast, these forums have been a great help.

My husband and I are looking at a 1981 Excella II - they are asking $4,800 - and since they are a family friend, they might even consider a payment plan which would be a great help to us.

It hasn't been used for about a year, one of the tires is flat. The interior looks to be in decent condition.
I've read the Price vs. Condition guide and it looks like it might fall somewhere on the lower end of the average condition section, but it's hard for us to tell.

Our biggest concern is that there is a leak due to a cracked air conditioner - and some parts of the floor make a sort of crunching noise. We couldn't see the condition of the floor because it's carpeted, but the carpet is original and doesn't show signs of water damage.

Also, we weren't able to check the appliances because there's no electricity or propane.

We're wondering if anyone could lend a hand in inspecting the trailer - or any thoughts on whether this sounds like a good deal.

Thank you!

Hi eyelashsoup Welcome to the forums. If you click on the member list icon at the top of the page the list will show up, On that page click on the search members icon and select advanced search. There you can search for a member who does inspections in NY state. Pick some one who is active and close to the trailer.
I would have to say that crunching floor is not a good thing. The floor if probably rotted and that is a major job to repair. The floor is the main component that connects the shell to the frame. With that being taken into consideration plus the `cracked air conditioner`and you can`t test the appliances it would be more like the as is condition and on the lower end of that scale. You could be looking at $2500 if you had to replace all the appliances and double that to pay someone to fix the floor. You have to ask yourself are you prepared to spend that much to get the trailer usable.
