Impressive New Airstreams

We went to the RV show today. I am building a new dinette in the son's Globetrotter and wanted some ideas and dimensions.

We walked in and out of conventional trailers and fifth wheels. Then we came to the Airstream display.

Wow, what a difference! The new Airstream made those SOBs look rather pathetic. The design and quality of the Airstream was way above the others in my view. Airstreams are twice the price or more, but the Airstream is clearly superior. The interior design, the windows, the flooring, upholstery, bedding, the ducted AC, and on and on. I'm partial to the brand of course, but this comparison was enlightening to me.

I used to think a new Airstream would be a tough sell, but not any more. I thought the new ones were spectacular. I now understand why Jackson Center had to add capacity.

When we bought our Airstream last year, my wife had never been in any other RV. 6 months later she wanted to go to an RV show that was in town, just to kill some time.

Well. We walked through everything at the show from pop ups to some amazing class A vehicles. Then we sat in an Airstream, same model as ours, and she just said "you were right, only an Airstream would do."

She said I was right!!! My wife admitted I was right!!!

You want to really be impressed (or terribly depressed) take a tour of the factory in Jackson Center.

Now and then we will look at other brands of RV's. Our build quality is much better, their interiors are confining, tiny cheap windows, the smell of glue is overwhelming. It's pretty clear why they cost less for a similar size.

We're glad to come home to our Airstream.

Despite all the complaints, at the end of the day, what we have after fixing all the issues is the best of the RV lot....

Fixing is part of the fun for me. An Airstream is a basically hand built product that suffers from human errors.

I left my Airstream door unlocked and it blew open on the highway. I know better. We humans strive to be perfect, but alas we are not. My Super Duty has not had any defects in its complex systems since new. But automobiles are built with more automation and mistaking proofing than an Airstream. I think I read the Kentucky Ford factory builds about 1500 Super Duties a day!

Anyway, I'm still thinking about how impressive those new Airstreams were at the show. Today I reviewed Colonial Airstream's pictures of the fancy Land Yacht. Wow, that thing is beautiful. And so is the Classic. Very special.

Stay away from Jackson Center.....Most expensive free factory tour I have had the fortune of taking. Caught a severe case of aluminumitus. The only know cure is an Airstream. Now the proud owner of a 30' flying cloud.

Bum, my free tour cost me about $600. Money well spent.

Another expensive problem with the tour, it begins and ends indoors next to the Airstream Store. Lights, vent covers, aluminum propane tanks, disc brakes, rear view cameras, lots of goodies ready to be installed while you are there (by people who work exclusively on Airstreams every day).
