Help - I can't tell what's going on with this roof!
Currently considering buying this. However, I can't tell what in the wild wild world of sports is going on with this roof. Seller says it is from the previous/1st owner, "The guy tried to copy the newer trailers that have white coating on top to reflect heat. He used the something that has like the ceiling popcorn texture to it. Does keep it cooler compared to our 73. Scraps right off with a plastic putty knife though. He should have taped off better edges and stopped sooner. Looks like he sprayed it."
It is hideous to be sure. I'm not convinced it will "scrape right off" nor that it was done to deflect heat. I'm thinking the 1st owner was trying to fix a leak or hide something. If you look at the interior pic where the inside skin is removed it looks like the panel went through a hail storm or something...
Thoughts? The current seller is super nice and knowledgable. This is 1 of 3 airstreams they own. I just can't tell what is going on...
links below are to the best roof pics & all the pics the seller has been kind enough to send me

i can't tell you how grateful i am for this forum! everyone is so nice & willing to help!
it can get overwhelming looking for your first airstream. trying to hold onto logic while the excitement creeps in. Having other people weigh in gives me great comfort that i've not let the emotional excitement take over.
I know there's an airstream out there for me. I just have to keep looking.

Seems like a good idea. I've been seeing a lot of nicely maintained used trailers in the market. If you can't find yours today, and you can wait, yours may be coming up for sale soon.

Wow. You made a good choice. The inside picture with the birch paneling missing the center piece shows you're exactly right - that is MAJOR hail damage. Plus IF you wanted a wood interior, you'd put it over the inner skins, not take down the inner skins and ruin the structural strength of the hull.
Lots of other stuff too, but why belabor the obvious.
This one is "A 3 year old putting lipstick on the pig". The current owner may be friendly and charming, but if this unit was insured it was totaled. No way you'd get anything but a salvage title on it. If it wasn't insured, well that's still no excuse for trying to sell it as anything but a parts donor. (And with the inside in the shape it was, what parts would you want?)

You made a good escape from that awful mess. And as others said above, yours is still waiting out there--no need to take a pig like this one. Ugh.
Good fortune in your search!

The hunt is half the fun. To help you on your quest, try ''One Craig's'', Be very specific this is a national search engine. Have cash ready, because good deals sell quick. Your in a good area, the south has the most for sale, this time of year. Happy hunting

That is your basic Helen Back roof. Because that's where it's been.
