First Airstream

We are looking to buy our first Airstream trailer.
We are going to look at a 1986 Sovereign 25
What are some of the things I should be inspecting on a trailer this old
Thanks
Jack

Leaking windows
Freeze damaged plumbing
Rotten floor
Boiled batteries
Rusting frame

Where is the trailer located?

First Airstream

I noticed that the weights of the older, mid 80's, trailers are lighter than the newer models.
Has the construction changed drastically
Thanks

In a word, yes. The vintage trailers' (ie., from the 60's) claim to fame was their light weight. Airstream went to great pains to keep them as light as possible. As time has moved on, and tow vehicles have become more capable, and owners have developed a taste for wider trailers and more solid construction (ie., solid wood cabinetry) they have gained weight. Some of the smallest new trailers available today weigh approximately as much as some of the largest trailers from the 60's.

good luck with your search!

Download the buyer's inspection checklist from the link below. If you go all the way through it, you will have hit all the usual issues.
