Exterior Height

Are most Airstream trailers under 10 feet in height? When the specs show exterior height do they include the AC unit?

For late-model airstreams the answers to your questions are yes, and yes!

My 2017 Airstream Serenity 27FB is 9 feet, 9 inches to the top of the AC unit.

Hi

If you get pedantic about it, the radio antenna sticks up just a bit past the top of the AC.

Exterior Height

But it's flexible, right? The one on my 2007 is, at least.

Be aware that any "add-ons" you have may increase the height... such as Fantastic Fan covers, Dexter Axle-Lift-Kits, etc.

The standard max hieight for all RVs is 12'7" (or so I was told by the salesman.)

Hi

It's flexible, but you don't want to hit anything at speed with it. Slow encounters with trees backing into the campsite - no problem. 70 mph encounter with the bottom of a bridge ... not a good thing.

Absolutely. Participated in some testing for military radio antennas that had to survive a strike on an object moving at 65 mph. The high speed films showed 'interesting' motions and accompanying destruction on the early prototypes. Whacking into a 2x4 sized piece of wood moving at speed would not do well for the antenna's survival....

The first time I drove the MH through Kansas City, there was a detour on I-435. So, like a good traveler, I followed the detour signs. Imagine my surprise when I met a DOT truck coming towards me picking up the signs. Now I had no signs, no GPS, and no idea where I was. I was taking a two lane road more or less towards Lawrence,KS.
Unfortunately, the road took me under a railroad trestle.
I didn't have time to read the height, but it looked low. I told myself, "Here's where I'm thrown through the windshield."
Karma was on my side, because I cleared, but I was just lucky. Had to be inches.
