Does anyone use this lock?

When I am trailering. It works great. The only problem I have with mine is that it requires that you have a allen head wrench that fits the screw.

There is a small allen head screw that you have to back out once you have removed the keyed barrier.

I guess you would have to see it to fully understand it.

We used one occasionally on former boat trailer... Will work with sheet metal stamped hitch, but not some of the other versions. It is very sturdy and will keep someone from hitching up and driving off, but may not easily fit 2 5/16ths ball receiver.. Somewhat of a pain to screw locking plug in and out after unlocking with key, but it does work...

I like mine. Even when it seems like extra work to put it on and off....I think of the reason....makes it a lot harder for someone to rip your trailer off....

I use one on our boat trailer and though it does take an extra step, it is in fact a very great tool.... though there are others out there too.

On our 2004 the ends of the receiver are kind of stamp bent upward, so in some applications this may not work well. I have yet to try with the Airstream , but from looking at the one on the boat trailer where the receiver has got a flat skirt like metal around the lip allowing this to slide on, it appears to possibly be an issue for a newer coach, but again, I have yet to test that out.

I don't use a coupler lock (other than a Master pin through the coupler tongue on top) on the Airstream, but I do use one on the Scamp as at 2600 lbs it's light enough to be pulled away by anything. After returning to the trailer and repeatedly finding folks walking in off the street to touch and look at it, I decided something was in order for security. I use a Master locking pin through the coupler tongue on it, but I also use a Master ball lock. They're available at any number of sources; I bought mine at Wally World.

Although a tongue lock won't stop a determined thief with a tow truck from dragging the trailer away, it'll make it more difficult for some dumb crook to steal on a whim. The downside is that they're only good for up to 2" ball couplers. I don't know if they make a 2 5/16" version.

I have a Bulldog TL-33 (http://www.rjays.com/Rjays_tlr_locks/Locks_Main1.htm) at Pahaska's recommendation. It is easy to use. None of these will stop a crudely equipped thief if you boondock at the end of miles and miles of road. I find many campground situations that I trust, such that I use it only some of the time.

Maybe I should review meth statistics before I continue that foolhardy attitude...

I tried that one but it wouldn't fit on my 2005 25' Safari. The coupler flarges out wider that the lock can accomodate. I finally found one made by Husky at a local non-AS RV dealer that did the job, but wasn't cheap - about $50, I think.

I use place a spare ball in the coupler and then place a lock on the coupler pin on top. I don't know if its as good as these other solutions but it is better than nothing at all.

T-man -- That works. Just mess up the threads or cut off the shank. We're only slowing them down anyway. They truly wouldn't have to actually access the ball hitch to hook up a chain, hike up the tongue and mosey on at slow speed. That's why I've liked my Argosy -- a stealth Airstream that non-millionaires would tow....

The lock I asked about does not fit on my TT. The lip around the ball area is too large to fit into the grove in the lock......

That testing looks like fun! I wonder if I could get Master Locks to send me a box of locks for more testing. I have a Ruger P89, maybe multiple rounds will get it done.
