Best place to look for used Airstreams (30' range)?

Looking for resources, a good deal on a clean used airstream, maybe 70's - 80's. Any thoughts? Looking for right tow vehicle too.

Hello aaastircrazy. There is no surefire location for finding the perfect peerless Airstream. You'll need to be able to assess a sale, understand what you'll have to do to bring an old unit up to your requirements, and you will bear responsibility for what you ultimately get into. It is more understandable to point out that no 20- or 30-year old car is going to function just like a new one without a lot of work.

eBay is positively dangerous territory for people just starting with Airstreams. Do not buy anything at a distance without seeing and understanding it first. Sometimes members post asking if someone more experienced living near an offered unit can meet them to look it over. It will take a lot of patience and time looking at our classifieds here for instance. But there are some good units mixed in among the projects.

We got the best education by going to a rally. Look at the rally calendar to find one close to you.

Please be aware there are alot of different scams out there. As CanoeStream Indicated. Ebay is not the place to start. Please be cautious of any unit you can't reach out and touch or at least drive too in a day. I found ours here on the Forums, however the PO(previous owner) also had it on Craigs List and Ebay. We were able to drive to it and make a hands on inspection and brought it home the same day.
We did alot of research HERE.Alot of reading HERE. THIS is the greatest source of information on Airstream available IMHO. Also some of the nicest and most knowedgeable people you will ever chance to meet.
Be Very Patient. The correct AS will come available that will suit your needs.
GOOD LUCK with your Search

Another good place to check, particularly for matched Airstream tow-vehicle combinations is the monthly newsletter of WBCCI Units. Members will often advertise their units when they are upgrading or when they are retiring from traveling. In most cases these rigs have been lovingly cared for and include the necessary equipment for near immediate enjoyment.

Welcome to the forums. I looked for 2 years, every night on Ebay and Craigs list. Most were too far away, too expensive, just not right. Then one day less than 10 miles from home on a bike ride I looked in a field and saw my Trade Wind with a for sale sign. Moral or the story, you never know where you will find your dream. I would suggest that if you have friends who are in sales, folks that travel every day on back roads or state highways, give them all a call and ask them to be on the lookout. Also, call them back regularly and remind them to keep looking. I was on the road for years and would "be on the lookout" for various things for folks, but I always looked harder when they would call every once in a while just to remind me that they were still looking for a tractor or camper or whatever.

When you find one, get some one who knows Airstreams to look at it with you if you possible can. There are many little things that in the excitement of finding a trailer you can overlook and they are expensive to fix. If you know about them first maybe you can haggle on the price.

Good Luck
