'75 land yacht

Hello, I have owned a 34' avion for a few years and love it. Came across a 75 sovereign land yacht that needs cosmetic interior work for about a grand. Assuming there is no water damage or leaks, where else are the major issues on this model that I should look for? I am going to take a year or so and go through it so I dont mind replacing things, I just do not want to find something major that is beyond the average handymans ability to repair.

Watch out for rear end droop or separation. Also check for outriggger rot as evidenced by side bulge or interior walls bumping into or penetrating the ceiling. .

"Assuming there is no water damage or leaks..."

I would assume there have been some water leaks on any 36 year old trailer. Probe the floor in every nook and cranny to see if you have any soft spots. I think some common rot areas on the 70's models are around the door, below the front windows and in the bathroom.

Welcome to Airstreaming.

A 36 year old Airstream typically has common issues.

Window, access door and entrance door gaskets, as well as the sewer vent pipe cover gaskets that only last 2 to 3 years.

Resealing the stack, wing and vista view windows is also typical.

Depending on the use, the water heater might need attention, and the furnace should be pulled and cleaned internally. The water pump valves may need replacing.

Lastly, check the brakes and axles. Torsion axles do not have an unlimited life.

The Dura-Torque Axle
