1966 Overlander HELP PLEASE!

Hi all,
New here. Looking at purchasing a 1966 Overlander that has been kept in original condition by one owner and set up in covered barn for last 32 years. What should I be most concerned about?
Thanks!

Body damage, appliances that are original that don't work as they should, rotten spots in the floor, original gaskets that cause water leaks, bad rubber rods in the axles ( the rubber rods don't last 46 years), plastic windows, smell from cigarette smoking, rear end separation, cracked vent covers, to name some of the major issues.

Andy

You lucky dog! This is a GREAT find...welcome to the Forums. If it has been stored like you say....floor rot should not be a problem. Your expenses will be tires, converter, water pump and sealing things up after you get it cleaned up. Don't dive into axle work (replacement till you have other things under control) ...it will most likely need a new axle....you can get it with all new brakes, hubs, etc., then to make it clean and easy. Pictures help us help you.

I have a 66 Overlander a one owner too--but it was "stored" outside. Not great for it. In spite of that only a few leaks were found..be sure to look in the back compartment from the outside, and under every bed to check out the floor. Also check the plumbing and electrical- you should turn everything on.
and the trailer light/brake connector may be the old type...unless replaced already.

Lastly if you pass on it...send me the info! I 'm a few hrs away.

Dreambiz1, If you decide you don't want it, please send me a PM. I am in the Atlanta area and would be interested. Also, if you do buy it, we have a very active Airstream group here in GA. The group either has camp outs at various State Parks around GA, or during the summer, we hold rallies at a campground the group owns just north of Helen, GA.

Ok had it checked out and it needs a water pump, new LP tanks, has a leak in LP system somewhere, fridge is gone as well as 12V converter d/t apparently being plugged into 110 for 30 years. Body is in GREAT shape, minor surface rust on frame, floor solid, original, original original! AC works excellent. Of course seals around windows etc need replacing d/t dry rot. Couldn't do pressure test on water lines d/t bad water pump. Thoughts??

Well, if you don't want to deal with those issues, I'll be more than glad to take this stress off your hands.

I hope that you are towing it home at this point as that is a great model year and has great history.

plan on all new plumbing. Fridge is a problem as it helps to support the wall and cabinet. Tough to find. I drove 10 hours rt to get one.
What is the asking price?
These are great trailers well worth some work. I did a lot to mine. Still doing it!
Pictures would be great...hows the wood inside, couch still there? Got bunk bed?
PM me if you want I am in ATL

Stored "inside" always sounds great but from my experience once taken "outside" they leak like sieve. Plan on new plumbing. If you think that stuff daunting than think hard about why you want a vintage trailer. They all come with issues and any issue can be easily over come with a little determination.
