What do you guys do with AS's without titles for registration in CA?

I'm asking this hypothetically speaking -- I'd really prefer NOT to buy anything without a title, but see a handful of people selling AS's without a title including one that isn't too far from me in AZ (I'm in CA).. I'm assuming that would be a major hassle to prove the trailer isn't stolen or whatever.. Should I just completely ignore any ads for trailers like these? I'm guessing your answer will be a resounding "yes".. but had to ask!

I suggest browsing the California DMV website. It's pretty comprehensive and probably has something on getting title.

It's been several years ago, but after I tried to register a trailer at two different California DMV offices and turned down by both, I went to the Triple A office (AAA) here in Long Beach, CA.

It took them about ten minutes to register it. They have a hook-up with the state and I had my paper work, plates, etc. I asked them why they could do it and the state couldn't and their answer was everyone working in the California DMV weren't aware of the rules. They showed me in the State book where it could be registered, etc.

I paid my fee and had everything in my hands withing ten minutes.

If your an AAA member this service is part of your membership fee.

Good luck -- Don

Untitled in AZ

I registered in Arizona an SOB we bought this summer in Connecticut. Connecticut doesn’t issue titles for travel trailers under 2000 pounds, so when I got home all I had was a bill of sale and a temporary Connecticut plate. Arizona DMV physically inspected the trailer, ran a stolen vehicle, salvaged vehicle, and registration inquiry through a national database, determined I had bought the SOB legally, and issued me a clean title and plates. I can’t imagine California would not be able to do the same.

Thanks guys.. I ran across a CA airstream w/o title listed in the classifieds section...

Helmsman -- yes, I do have a membership w/ AAA.. Is it your thought that I would not have any issues getting it registered here in CA again in my name? Are there any checks I can do myself to ensure its not stolen or something odd like that? I'm sure I'm getting ahead of myself but...
