I recently stopped to look at a 1966 Globetrotter and the owner gave me a copy of the "Oregon vehicle certification" I called our tag agency (in Oklahoma) and read off the VIN but they were unable to pull anything up. I know that a VIN needs 17 characters/numbers so what am I doing wrong? the certificate is the same as a title right? the numbers on it are:

PLATE NUMBER
TITLE NUMBER
PROCESS DATE
YEAR
MAKE
STYLE
VIN: (only has 8 characters/numbers)

I live in Oregon and the vin numbers are 16 digits long. You could contact the Oregon Dept of Motor Vehicles through the Oregon Dept of Transportation for further help.

17-digit VINs were only introduced in 1981, so older trailers just have whatever serial number the company chose to use.
