Pre salvaged title

I am looking for anyone to share your experience with an airstream that has a pre salvaged title (has been repaired and currently does have a title and the trailer is currently in good condition). What are considerations with insurance or other concerns, if any?

Would you mind explaining, my understanding is insurance co. writes it off as a total loss and has new title issued as a "salvage" title. Unsure as to what you mean by "pre salvage title" and "it does have a title now"?

Just curious, inquiring minds want to know!

Cheers, Tom

I am assuming it is a salvaged title. I am wondering how insurance works with that and if in the future it is a problem to resell. We don't own this currently but thinking about it.

Every insurance company's policies are different. You should contact YOUR insurance company to ask about their policy on insuring a salvage title trailer. As far as re-sale, I bet you will find it extremely difficult. No one knows what to expect with a salvage title, so they will tend to steer clear.

"No one knows what to expect with a salvage title, so they will tend to steer clear." That's precisely what we did. I found a couple of Airstreams that sounded good, but then I saw that they had salvage titles, so I didn't look at them any further.

I have heard that some States allow a salvage title to be upgraded to something closer to a standard title IF there is a pretty comprehensive inspection, usually by the State Highway Patrol. Might be worth checking into that. While the process of getting an upgraded title might be costly, it might be worth it IF it raises the value of the trailer.

My experience with salvage title. This was a Truck not a trailer but sure it works the same. State of Ohio incase other States vary.
I went to the authorized insurance center and adjuster got within 50 feet of truck and said frame is damaged. Truck was 24 years old but super low mileage. Insurance totaled truck gave me $$ and said you keep truck. Title that said not valid for registration issued. A junkyard bumper and new taillight later I had vehicle inspection and Salvage title issued. I lived with the tailgate and bed dents. Inspection had nothing to do with safety as I assumed it would. It was all about receipts and making sure stolen parts not used to repair damage. I never did have frame checked on a fixture designed for that but truck drove fine and no tire alignment wear issues. Eventually sold truck to neighbors kid and 5 years later still no issues. Salvage titles issued when value to repair exceeds a percentage of value of vehicle. If trailer worth 5k (made up numbers for this example) and 3.5k in damages (made up number again) salvage title issued. I’m guessing 2 end caps repaired at Jackson Center would cost that or more.
Salvage title as result. Would I buy that trailer if that’s what happened, I probably would. Oh and my made up 5k value that’s what insurance says but due to market and other conditions it was probably worth 7k ( made up number again)

Sorry, what do you mean by "has been repaired and currently does have a title
and the trailer is currently in good condition"?

What was the initial damage, who did the repair, what was the book value prior to the damage and what is the current asking price?

Cheers, Tom

I purchased 2015 AS 16RB that was repaired by body shop in Reno, NV with hail damage to the roof. The repaired/replaced panels are undetectible and the price was a deal. The NV and original Utah title was listed as SALVAGE and I financed 100% with my credit union. Never had problem with Foremost Insurance coverage.

The new title, after the loan pay off, does not list as salvage.

If a buyer plans on keeping forever, repair is not a result of crash /rollover and the price is a bargin...go for it.
