Personal Property Tax on AS?
For the North and South Carolina AS owners, how do your states calculate your annual taxes on your RV's? Online info is clear on initial sales purchase, but vague on annual taxes. Now retired, DW and I sold home in Northern CA in August and have been roaming around NC and SC for a home to be somewhat close to family in midlands SC. We did our homework on other taxes, but forgot about personal property taxes. Originally from VA, I remember having to pay high tax bills on cars and trucks, but have been away for many years and didn't have the high ticket toys. Thanks.

It is done as a part of annual vehicle license plate renewal. I don't even know the rate or the calculation but mine was about $300 this year.

In Georgia you pay an annual ad-Valium tax. It is about $1000 on my 2018 Serenity 28

I'm retiring from the Army and am also interested in this. I am currently in Virginia but am still a Washington state resident. I have no interest in playing Virginia taxes. Current plan is to move to Texas. I don't believe they pay personal property taxes on vehicles.

Florida has no ppt on vehicles. I believe AS tag is about $60 annually.

As a Texas resident, I only pay annual registration renewal. IIRC, it was about $80.

Here in lovely Virginia my 2012 International 30 is assessed at $36,650 and my tax bill (due shortly) is $1,444.01. We only pay vehicle registration once, when we title it. We are issued permanent tags, so that's something.
I try not to think about it.

in NC its by county. my 2019 27 International was just under 500 personal property tax plus registration which is minimal.

A (no so) simple explanation of Arizona's RV tax:
A Vehicle License Tax (VLT) is part of your vehicle registration fee. In Arizona, a VLT is assessed in place of a personal property tax charged by other states. The VLT is based on an assessed value of 60 percent of the manufacturer’s base retail price reduced by 16.25 percent for each year since the vehicle was first registered (15 percent before 8/1/98). Then, as of the Dec 1, 2000 reduction, the rate is calculated as $2.80 (new vehicles)/$2.89 (used vehicles) for each $100 of the assessed value. For example, for a new vehicle that costs $25,000, and is registered for two years, the first year assessed value would be $15,000 and the VLT would be $420.00. The second year the assessed value would be $12,562.50 and the VLT would be $363.06.

Hi
PA has none of this "stuff" ....
Indeed, I have lived in states where the "bill" on a very normal automobile was just under $2,000. I sorta shudder to think what an AS would be in that state .... Since it was a long while ago, it likely has no direct relevance today.

No PPT in Michigan. Just a one time registration fee. No yearly fee.

I would have to think about registering it as a LLC.

We live in Laurens County, South Carolina. We purchased our 2018 Classic 30 for $111K. Our county tax bills for the past three years have been $2,127 (2018), $1,894 (2019), and $1,830 (2020). Ugh! For our sticks-and-bricks home in the same county, valued at $220K, we pay only $819 in property taxes. This is enough to make us leave South Carolina!

I paid less than $100 in Texas. Arizona I paid close to $1000.
All around Texas is the best place to retire.

Our annual Texas License fee is around $60 -70 on each of our vehicles and AS but watch out for property tax on our Homes, $4 to 5000 is common, we are lucky and got our property tax frozen when I turned 65, but new home owners get hit pretty hard, even on homes in the upper 190's. Property Tax and sales tax rates more than make up for the lack of state income tax,

Wow, I would leave any of those states that treat you like you owe them something.
And when an RV annual tax costs more than a house twice the value, you know it's time. Feel for you all having to deal with that.

RV Taxes - GA
In GA one pays 100% of sales / property tax at time of purchase. License plate renewal is only ~$20.00 after that.

VA is HIGH on RV property tax. You will have to check with the county that you are going to tag it in and check the rates, don't fall over when you do!!!!! Northern VA, Prince William County is $25.00 per year. Loudoun County on a brand new AS IGT was $10,000 per year, yes you read that right!!! I even called to check with the county cuz I thought I figured something wrong. There are only a couple of counties in VA that have low rates for the RVs cuz they are tax just like a regular auto.

When I purchased my 2016 Interstate, I had to pay GA about 10K. Tag fees yearly are around $25 afterward. Property tax on a 500k house is about 4k. Atlanta is too noisy, too hot, and too crowded. And did I mention that there are no restaurants in GA? My new next door neighbor just moved up from the West Palm area of FL, and they think they are in paradise.
