Inquiry about Vin number

Good afternoon, we have just acquired an Air Stream Ambassador. Not sure of the year but think it is an early 60's model. Needs work, and cleaning, but we think it will be a great trailer once finished. I located the vin number on the plate by the door which is I283T269. It also has on the top, both front and back above windows, the number 9397. Can anyone help me with these numbers and what they mean. I am still learning about Air Streams and will apparently be learning for quite some time. Thank you, Tony

If I had to guess I would say an International package, 28’ long twin, built in 1963 and manufactured sequence number 269. But 66Overlander (Joe) can verify accurately.

I concur. Based on the VIN Number I283T269, it is a 1963 Ambassador, which is 28' long, it has twin beds, the International package and it was built in Ohio.

I = International Package
28 = Length
3 = 1963 Model Year
T = Twin Beds
269 = Production Number

The numbers 9397 above the front & back windows are probably 6" high and are (or were) 'RED'. They represent the previous owner's WBCCI (Airstream Club) membership number.

Congratulations on your new acquisition! I hope you get as much enjoyment from your Airstream as we have ours!

Shari

Thank you Shari!

Looks like a previous did a modification on the inside. Did away with one of the beds and put cabinets in its place. I would like to put it back original.

And yeah, the numbers are part red and the other part is black. Age will do that I guess. And I will share pictures later on.

Have a great day.

Tony
