How to find the VIN#?
Howdy from the Southwest.
I just purchased a brand new 1966 Overlander. Well it is brand new to me. My q is the location of the serial number. I have been unable to locate the number. The AZ DOT wants to asign one and I kinda like the one that's listed on the out of state title. Looking for direction.

VIN Vehicle Identification Number
Airstream trailers usually have a id plate on exterior skin near door with data. The numbers are also stamped into top of tongue. All states have books describing all numbers location, including concealed locations. Frank

Frank, Thanks for the reply. There is no ID plate by the door like your pic. The state inspector looked in some books and was not able to come up with any thoughts other than remove the propane tanks and a box behind the tanks where I have seen pictures of spare tires being stored. So I am in the process of removing the metal box. The bolts are rusted and I am waiting for the penetrating oil to work. I will be looking at the top of the front frame rails very closely.

I have read somewhere that you can also find the VIN# on the "A" frame in or around the LP tanks. I think Andy @ Inland RV had mentioned it. If he does not respond here in the forums, you may want to contact him and ask. If you get an answer, please post it here in the future so others with the same problem can benefit from our efforts.
Also, welcome to the forums! I am sure your Overlander will greatly benefit from having you as the owner.

CAUTION: Having worked for the insurance division of Airstream makes me suspicious of any Airstream that lacks a serial number. IT IS HIGHLY SUGGESTIVE OF A "STOLEN TRAILER." However, if there is no plate forward of the door and below the side window, then remove the paint from the top of the A-frame. The serial number is stamped into it, usually, forward of the LPG bottle rack and on the curb side. If you still cannot find a serial number, then I would bet on a stolen trailer.Andy

Found vin stamped on plate by door. It is not exactly like Frank's pic (only 1 plate vs 2 plates in the pic)so I did not find it readily. The plate by the door had been painted over so as to obstruct the numbers and letters. The vin matches the title. Thank you so very much for your direction. Cause the state employees had no clue, and were going to reissue a VIN. ------ Based on vin it is a 66, built in Jackson Center, 26' in length, international.
So a question is what is the diff between International and Landyacht?

They are all Land Yachts. The international models are the longer trailers, ie, 26, 28 and 30 foot, and somewhat more plush. This applies to the older trailers. In the late 80's everything changed. Andy
