Help Finding a Texas Inspection Station

When I did our trailer Texas tags and registration in July 2017 for a trailer purchased in Minnesota they required a weight scale ticket. Basically I went to a Flying J with a CAT scale to get the weight ticket. Go inside before pulling up on the scale and they will be happy to help you. The scale is divided into three sections. The four truck wheels will be on the Section and the trailer wheels will be on Section three. I know this does not give the actual trailer weight, but that is what the want at DOT along with your inspection form, previous title, bill of sale, release of lien if it has one on the title, and the completed title & registration form. Plus a check for the sales tax and registration. Good luck.

Are you sure you're exempt? It's the rated gross, not the empty weight that makes the difference. I'm annoyed that my 26U is 100 lb over the 7,500 lb limit. Airstream says the gross for an '82 Excella 34' is 8300 lb, but if someone made an error on your title and listed the dry weight you're a winner! (My Argosy was titled in Texas with its dry weight instead of gross, for example, so I never had a state inspection for a trailer until I got the 26U.)

You will also need an Application for Texas Title form 130-U signed by the seller! when you go to transfer the title. These can be downloaded online. I had to mail one back to Tennessee to be signed before I could transfer the title on a car I brought in from out of state. A real PITA if you don't know about it!
