cant find vin

If you cant find the vin on the side plate by the front door or stamped on the tongue what would you do to get a title for a 1964?

If you have the original cabinets, it is sometimes on the inside of the cabinet doors, drawers or cabinets themselves.

It should be on the blue plate next to your door...like on our '64 GT below:

It's in the little silver box on the lower left corner of the blue plaque like this one from the Photo Archives:

Your plaque maybe in a different location, like under a window to the right of the door. But if that's missing, do you happen to still have the Lifetime Warranty certificate inside? It'll have the VIN too...not good enough for the DMV, but at least you'd know what you are looking for. Our GT has it inside a closet...it'll look like this:

Lightbulb Just another thought...

...are you certain it's a '64 Overlander? Do you have any pictures? Could it be a Ambassador instead? The number you posted is closer to an Ohio made 28' Ambassador model...it's just missing a "4"

O(I) 28 4 1(2) NNNN
O(I) 28 (4 missing) 2 3931
("O" prefix for Landyacht, "I" for Int'l options)
(1= Double Bed, 2=Twin Bed)

Maybe they would help us give you a clue as to where else to look...

Shari

Okay, so I looked at your pics and saw the one of the tongue where you got the number from...that's not it. Also, it does look to be an Overlander - but the blue plaque is missing...odd, but you can buy a new one from Vintage Trailer Supply, although they are not sized exactly right for CA built trailers.

On our '64 the VIN number (S 2063) is stamped in the tongue but not as deep as the number you show, it's also on the curbside back by the trailer, not at the end. I think the number you posted is the patent number for the tongue/coupler...ours has one similarly placed, not sure what it is though...it's dark. The pictures below show where ours is, (click on them to enlarge them)...you might have to scrape some paint off to see it if your tongue has been repainted several times as ours had.
