Can't find our VIN

I hope I am not starting a new thread, but I didn't find this exact problem. We have the opposite problem of the others I've read. We bought a 1975 Argosy in Indiana and want to license in Ohio. We have a title, with a VIN on it. But, the license agent couldn't find the VIN on the camper. We thought it was on a medallion on the lower right of the door. It doesn't match. I checked the a-frame at the hitch, but also no number. Is there somewhere else to look? Any help will be appreciated. We have another option (have it inspected for road worthiness), but we kind of want to have this done properly. Any help would be much appreciated!

Hi bookstax. First off, I hope you're enjoying the forums. Each VIN question is unique. Sure, start your own thread. Posting to the same ol' thread might not get as much attention.

The VIN plate on my '74 Argosy was on trailer front near the water fill door.

The VIN should be embossed into the steel on the streetside top of the A-frame -- behind the gas tanks. The letters/numbers are about 1/2" tall.

Argosy trailers don't have the serial number by the door like an Airstream of the same era. The number is only on the tag with the GVW and axle weight ratings, and stamped into the right top of the A-frame. The numbers stamped on the A-frame may be under the LP tanks. It should read something like "24D5V1234"

Thank you for your help. We see the spot above the water fill where the plate used to be. But, I found the VIN number on the a-frame, but at the hitch latch. That's saves us the stress of having to have it inspected. My husband felt so stupid because he and the title agent were searching for it in the blinding rain and couldn't find it. Then, this morning my husband, father and I were searching all over the a-frame behind the gas tanks, underneath, under the tension bar apparatus-- everywhere. Then, this afternoon, again in the rain, I was just standing at the front of the trailer, talking to my husband and I look down-- duh, there it is! It was like that moment in It's a Mad...World-- it was under the big W all the long! Thank you for the clue. You've saved us going through a lot of trouble! I hope some day to help others as much as the forums have helped me!
