Can this VIN Confirm year and model?

I'm told it is a 1976, 23(22) ft Safari.
I'm trying to determine if the side bathroom / rear Bed is original.
I would be happy to confirm the year also.
It is dual axle (see pic)
I presume window placement is original.

It looks like your VIN/Serial Number Decodes as follows:
L = Land Yacht Trim Level
23 = Length in feet from tip of tongue to edge of rear bumper (may be rounded) -- Safari
T = Twin Bed with Rear Bathroom
3 = 1973 Model Year
J = Jackson Center, Ohio -- production plant
1229 = Sequential Production Number


The Airstream VIN/Serial Number Decoder can be found on the Airstream Website.


Based upon the photos, very little of the interior of your Airstream is original to the 1973 build date, at least according to those that I have seen during my 30 years in the Vintage Airstream Club.

Thank you. Not sure I'm thrilled to find out it is 3 years older than I was told. I may ask the seller for an 'adjustment' based on that. I do find it interesting if someone went to the effort to move the bathroom from the rear. I'm all for it - I prefer a rear, larger bed.
We'll see how functional it is once we get inside.
