Argosy VIN with a J in it???? Please help if you can
Hi Folks...
I have been trying to find out how to decipher the VIN on my Argosy..
Basically i have figured out that it is not a Minuet..
1978 Argosy 24 Twin beds, the problem i run across is where it was produced,
Some have V, some have O...
Mine has a J..
due to another post in this same forum i do not wish to post my entire ViN.. (not that its that long)..
but i will post some of it..
Its : 24-T8J-XXXX (the X's are the production number)..

24 - T8J - XXXX
24 = length
T = rearbath, Twin beds
8 = 1978
J = Jackson Center, OH assembly plant

Thanks Janet, Was thinking it had something to do with where it was produced, just was not sure on the location.

Most Argosies in the 1970's were produced in Versaille, Ohio, not Jackson Center. While not being specific, is the last 4 digits of your serial number (what they called it before it became known as a VIN) unusually high? Say, 99XX?

No, its 22XX I would not consider that to be too high.

I'm a new Argosy owner (this is the first of many questions I'm sure) Any way of getting VIN info on a 1975, 20' Argosy on a P30 frame with a 350 engine. It begins CPY375V3+++++ A VIN with less than 15 digits can't be run to my knowledge.

Yay! Another 20' Argosy! Did you get it from eBay, or elsewhere? Please post pics when you get a chance - we all love pics, and especially those of us who also own one (total project right now).
Congrats!
Susan

Hi Janet-
In the case of the Argosy - "J" stood for Ohio.

That's great. It only works if your trailer or motorhome is post 1980 or so, however.

The last four digits in the First Generation Argosy VIN are the sequential production numbers.

1981 was the first year required (and standardised for all manufactures selling in the USofA) for 17 digit VINs. Some GM products got the new (current) format a year earlier.
