$535 registration fees in CA!

We just got our renewal from DMV on our 2015 International Signature 27' and it is $535! Can that be correct? I thought trailer registrations were significantly lower than for vehicles.

Consider registering in another state. My sister in-law lived in Ct, a state with annual personnel property tax. She registered her trailer in NJ for years.

May sound strange but not as strange as this. When I applied for a passport they would not accept my certificate of birth as it was issued by the Pa. hospital I was born in. I asked our Government what I should do. I was advised to contact Pa., something that would take months, or I could go on line. I went on line and bought a birth certificate from Ca. for $9.95. That got me a passport.

The only problem with that is that it's illegal, and if CA catches you, you will have to pay penalties on top of the registration price.

I think the fee is about right. My 2008 just cost $365 to register in CA.

Many trucking companies register trailers in "cheap" states, this is very common.

I cant say how CA would react, but really, how would they know?

One year?
Remember your paying for all those fine highways....

I thought NY was bad...$23.25 for the boat, $75.25 for the AS, adjusted for 8mos use. Reg's go from Dec 31 annually, I re-up every May 1st.

Wish mine was $535. In Georgia mine was $1300.00. Would have been only $20.00 if it had a motor.

I will be paying $28 for my Airstream tag renewal next month in Jackson County Mississippi. Same price I pay for my boat and HF utility trailers. Jeep tag is about $400 with all th ad valorem taxes that my state and county loves for motor vehicles.

In Florida I have to pay 6% of what I paid for the Airstream when I register it. Not looking forward to that.

That's Outrageous! Lucy's tag was $97.00 for two years, and that's too much.

The six is probably the sales tax.

While registration in Missouri is not bad they get you with annual property tax. My 8 year old Airstream was about $350 this year.

While it was cheap to register the trailer in Texas the property taxes are amongst the highest in the US.

Not matter where you live the get you coming or going.

It's different for almost every state. Our tag for the trailer is $17/year, and property taxes are $5/year. On the TRUCK, however, it's $97 license, and $435 property taxes. We have to pay both county and city taxes on vehicles.

The 6% was probably called a use tax, but it is the same as the sales tax. In Tennessee it was 7% plus a smaller local tax. Those are one time charges. My boat is registered in FL, and docked in Florida. If I bring it to TN there would be an ungodly use tax due. It ain't coming home. The FL registration fee for it is about $200.00/yr which is not bad. No personal property tax there.

In Florida, 6% is the state sales tax and is collected on the entire value of the vehicle. The local county tax varies by county, but in the case of a vehicle, it is collected only on the first $5,000 of the value.
