1967 Overlander? VIN question/Title issue

Recently bought what the owner claims is a 1967 ..refered to it as a Land Yacht but I think it is an Overlander. The VIN he gave me is 13 digits and begins with 26TSS followed by 8 numbers. He has no Title and have no idea how Im going to get a Tag for it..have not paid or picked it up as of yet..please help!!

Welcome to the forum! The Land Yacht refers to the package and not the trailer. The 26 refers to the size, 26 foot, the T is for twin would need the other numbers to finish the puzzle for you. Of course a few photos would help too, but the complete serial number should be good. When I bought the Tradewind it was from out of state without a title. All I needed was a bill of sale and the transfer of registration to get it tagged here in CT.

Thanks so much

The complete number he gave me is 26TSS06686204

He also gave me a very long number from some sort of California DOH tag on the trailer.

There is no registration, no title, nothing, no proof of ownership. He will give me a bill of sale but my local tag office (Florida) will not give me a tag without a title.

That serial number according to the old Airstream records that I have, say that you have a 1962 26 foot Airstream.

Now you know why you don't have a title.

A 1967 would have curved tempered glass windows on the sides.

Sorry.

Trailer was stolen, has a lien on it, title was lost, trailer was on property when the property was purchased, it was abandoned...Any or all of the above.
If it's not stolen, or have a lien, you can get a title for it, it is just several hundred dollars to do so. I purchased an Overlander with no title (I knew the seller), and went through International Title Service to get a title.

Big Art-Looks like too many digits for the correct Serial number. If it is a Land Yacht the first character should be an L. Best guess is it is a CA trailer, rear bath, twin bed, 1966 Overlander.

Im going to have the sherriffs office do a title search to check any of said scenarios..although he said he did that already and nothing came up..no records at all. The tag office said if there is no lien or if not stolen than a judge may be able to grant ownership through a court hearing.

Thanks Rick..I think you may be correct that it is from CA because there is a California DOH plate on it as well with a very long number starting with M-4 then 9 digits then DOH A-15131

The last 4 numbers, 6204, mean that the trailer was built in 1964, the 4th week.

Unfortunately, people steal Airstreams too.

Best answer when a stolen trailer is sold, is that no paper work exists.

But, in this case, the year was misrepresented as well.

Let's be clear on this! Very simply.. Serial numbers in "66 were 8 digits long, the first a letter indicating where it was made, second position indicating model, 3rd and 4th position indicating length, 5th, model year, 6th, 7th and 8th sequential production number over 500 a double bed, under 500 a twin....In later years the positions changed.

The secret decoder ring on the Airstream Corp. site can be found here: http://www.airstream.com/airstream/p...pre1980vin.pdf

Unfortunately, that only goes back to 1966. You might poke around the Corp. site and see if they've added the older years.

Please contact me. I have the info on your Overlander. If you are the buyer I think you are from the ebay auction. apolaroid1@mchsi.com

I have already contacted the state of FL DMV on this airstream. A new title can be got but a lot of red tape will be needed.

Ah, if it wasn't for those full moons and Mondays.

6204 means made in the 4th week of 1962, not 64 as I posted earlier.

Sorry.

I am slowly finding out I may be able to get a title, but can the seller legally sell it to me without proof of ownership?

I think I would ask the local DMV or the police department.

I did contact my local DMV. They told me "in theory" he has to show proof of ownership to legally sell it. In Florida a title is the only way to do that. He did disclose there was no title available in the auction, yet I had no idea the problems that creates until I had bought it. What I am trying to figure out is if I have any legal recourse to refuse to buy even though he revealed there was no title.

I would go by the fact it was sold as a 67 and in fact was a 62 if you want to avoid this hassle. But would like to know what the others here think here. Add to the fact he did not disclose other damage on the unit. Along with the priced being based on a more complete unit. Being 45 years old it would not be perfect, but he should have mentioned the missing window and the missing vent along water damage from the missing vents and window. The attached picture shows just the water damage to the bench and matress that your seller sent me. No telling what other undisclosed damage is there. Anyone else want to chime in on the issue.
