I am glad we attached our WBCCI stickers
So sorry to hear about this tragedy.!!
We have the picture in the Suburban. Will travel soon and will keep an eye out.
We almost didn't attach the WBCII stickers because we heard it would leave a shadow. Glad we did. It might be a theft deterent.
Will advise WBCII members at our April rally to check this web site if it hasn't been found yet.

I know a person who either painted or used giant number decals and put their WBCCI number directly on the roof of their unit. Thinking about it most thieves may not look up there. I'm thinking about sticking mine up on the A/C cover. Wouldn't mess up the aluminum.

Interesting idea. Police & news helicopters would be among the first to see them!

WBCCI Numbers on Top
I think numbers on top is a grand idea, in addition to the ones visible on the trailer.
If professional thieves really are intent on getting the trailer, they will. The identifying number on top could be a real surprise later.
We really do need something because all the trailers look alike. It would be good to have something unusual visible on the trailer just for the rare possibility of something like this happening. I'm still thinking on this.

I have the same trailer
I'm sorry to hear about your loss. I will certainly keep my eyes peeled for it. Airstreams are few and far between where I live.
Since I own virtually the same trailer, I know certain things to look for. For instance, you must have twin beds because your outside storage compartments are different than mine.
It's the little things. I think 99 was the only year for our particular awning (supports)... which, by the way, leaves much to be desired compared to the later ones.
I think I heard/read somewhere that no two Airstreams are exactly alike. Almost like a fingerprint. And then there are the individual owner modifications, such as your tire carrier.
Good Luck!

This is exactly my fear...My AS is a '74. My husband and I are planning on moving to his hometown soon and we are taking the AS with us (of course). The problem is that he says there is not a place to park our AS near the house and plans on LEAVING IT AT THE CATTLE RANCH that his parents have. His brother will be living on a piece of land, but no one can be there 24-7. My arguement is that this is a VERY EASY way for someone to steal it because it will be in easy view and easy to just cut the fence and take off with it........We will be living next door to his parents' home and he says that his mother will not have room for us to park our AS----The property has an 'easement' and nothing is to block the path.............He says it is an old trailer and that no one will bother it-----------------------I am VERY UPSET!!!!!!!!

"He says it is an old trailer and that no one will bother it"
Trailers in that part of the country, as in some others, tend to disappear into the woods where they are used as hunting cabins. If ever found the user will claim that it must have been abandoned there.

That is my arguement. I have been offered money for my AS several times because people want to use it to use it for 'hunting' or 'just camping'. To me, it is an easy invitation--parking it on land. No lock and key is any deterrent to keep any thief from getting what he wants to get--just look at what happenend to the AS above! (In a private storage nonetheless). I just think it is safer parked at a residence where no one knows for sure who is home and when they are home to shoot thier pants off for tresspassing on your home property. Leaving it on a farm is a 'sitting duck'!!!!!!!!!

Around this neck of the woods, your car is much more likely to be stolen than your RV. My biggest concern about leaving it unattended somewhere would be more the vandalism issue; kids breaking in to use it as a party spot; someone using it for target practice, that sort of stuff. Although these things ARE occasionally stolen (VERY occasionally), you are truly much more likely to be a victim of residential burglary in your home than to have your Airstream stolen.

There is what looks like a '99 Safari parked on a used RV lot just north of me in Georgetown. I'll ride up this evening with Ralph's serial number just to see....
UPDATE: Never mind...was a 28' Excella, 1998 model....
Was worth a try, though.

RJ the units that were stolen in the Smokies were they in storage or were they being used by campers. Having a unit stolen while in storage is bad enough but to have one taken while you using it and are out site seeing would really be traumatic.
I don't think I have ever seen an Airstream with a 2" reciever midships. On the coast of NC getting ready to travel cross county I will print your photo and take it with us. Traveling over 8,000 miles and visiting some out of the way places, you never know what you might find. If it was going out of country there are only a few places that it can go. Norfolk International Piers and Baltimore come to mind. It might be worthwhile to contact the Port Authorties and see if there is anything they can do. When I sold my 30' Airstream I had an offer from someone in Germany and he was willing to pay for shipping it by container.
I'm cleaning mine tomorrow. While I am up on the roof I am planning on painting some nice big red 3485 numbers on the ac or maybe directly on the roof which is already painted white. The PO of my unit got out of Airstreams and I used his numbers. These numbers have been on the trailer for 8 years. Even if removed they will still be there for sometime.
Best of luck on finding your unit, even better luck on finding out who is behind this as it is a real concern to all of us.
Rick

trailers recovered
read an interesting item in the paper today about the police recovering stolen trucks and trailers. Says they arrested 22 people along I-35 in Texas. Seems the trucks and Trailers were being used to transport undocumented people around the country. Police in Bastrop,Williamson and Guadalupe counties worked together to track these stolen vechiles because they knew they were being used in this way. Of course they don't tell us what kind of traliers they were, but it shows some of who want these things. They use em abuse em and then I think Live in em !
Soooo if you're traveling on an interstate some time and you think you notice people inside an A/S being pulled by a stolen truck, call 911 and report it, it may be jammed full of people who aren't supposed to be there.

Update on Stolen 1999 27' Airstream Safari
We wanted to update everyone on the status of our stolen Safari. No, it was never found. General consensus is that it is in Mexico by now.
Good news is that our insurance company, Allstate, was very fair in the settlement. We were only out personal items that were not covered by our homeowner's policy since the trailer was stored off our premises.
More good news....we found a replacement and are back in the camping business. It's a 2001 27' Safari. We are hooked on that floor plan. It has some nice features the 1999 didn't have (i.e. window awnings and the new clear coat process on the models after 1999).
We want to thank everyone again for all the concern and thoughts. We plan to join the WBCCI and hopefully meet a lot of you in the future. It looks like we are going to be able to keep the WBCCI # in the picture so be on the lookout!

If these are pics of the new coach, then they are equal or greater than the '99 you posted.
Glad it all worked out!

Nice also that the previous owner added the rear and streetside awings. Also notice that you now have 4 stabilizer jacks rather then 2 on your '99. Finally again the previous owner replaced the 2001 jacks with the upgrade big models. I did the same on my 2001 Safari. Nice unit! Have fun and check out the 2001 Safari forum which has some other ideas.
Regards,
Jack

I am very lucky that I can store both of my Airstreams close to my house.
But, If I had to use a storage lot, I think I would remove the tires on one side and put it on jack stands.
I don't think most theives would go to the trouble of finding the correct tires/wheels and lug nuts so that they could steal it.
