READ the POLICY! Fulltiming!

So I switched coverage for my Truck about two years ago and also let them cover my Airstream... And didn't read the policy.

The good news is that my new policy arrived, I thumbed through it and found ZERO coverage for the contents. The good news is that I DON'T have a problem or a claim. The bad news is that I am a full timer and have more stuff in my trailer that's pretty valuable than I'd like to think about. TV, laptop, sewing machine, tools, etc.

I called my new agent (the one who wrote the policy AFTER I'd told him of my needs has retired) and asked to get contents insurance and "temporary domicile" insurance - and guess what Allstate can't write a policy that meets my needs.

So can anyone recommend a good company for a fulltimer?

I have my insurance thru Foremost. It does cover a set amount $$$ for contents.

Col, I do have agreed value. Foremost was very open to that and easy to deal with when setting the agreed valve.

Hmmmm, don't know but that is a good direction to go.

Might also try Passport America, which has other services for full timers.

On the Escapees site, they endorse 3 insurance vendors: Foremost, Poliseek, BancorpSouth Insurance. So I guess that's 2 votes for Foremost, counting AWCHIEF.

We use Foremost for our motorcycles (1 is vintage, the other, although newer, has custom motor work). They are very easy to work with for agreed values. We will probably approach them for agreed valuation and contents with the Airstream too.

Most "agreed value" policies are subject to the adjusters discretion once a claim occurs. Think about it folks, a 1955 Flying Cloud that is a shell is worth a lot less than a 55 Flying Cloud completely restored. Let's say both of these vehicles suffer a catastrophic claim, who determines value? The Adjuster in all cases. Make certain you have good documentation, photos receipts and if possible an appraisal. Without it, you'll most likely be surprised when the company disagrees with the agreed value.

Hi Paula,

Full-timing is the operative phrase in this here thread, which, unfortunately most of the replies you have received do not address.

We are full-time RV'ers.

I found only one company that would cover our F250 and our 30' Classic. That is not to say that there are not other companies out there, there are, and I switched to another at a later date. And then I discovered that the "other" company actually "farmed out" (technical term) the policy to the company I had been insured with previously; but I did get a better rate.

Progressive is the company that we were insured with. We did have one claim for the truck three days after we bought it. They were easy to deal with re; the repair. Sticker shock is what hit us for the next three years re; our premiums.

Based on our experience and that which we have gleaned from others who also full time, you want to be sure that your insurer understands what being a full-time RV'er really means. The vast majority of the sales reps we spoke to were only to happy to insure our vehicle/trailer. Until I finally got them to understand that our primary residence was a travel trailer. Then, they, mostly politely, slammed the door in our face.

It is amazing how foreign the concept of full time Rving is to insurance companies.

We have heard of people who had claims denied when the insurer learned that they were full time RV'ers stating that they had not been informed of this condition at the time the policy was written.

My only advice is be careful, be vary careful and make absolutely sure that the company you insure your vehicles with understands you lifestyle.

PS: The other company was USAA who only insures those on active duty or who served in the military previously.

Paula, given that you have had to use your policy due to the recent unpleasantness, which company did you go with, and how did they do?

I went through Good Sam - they had two agencies - one about $1000 per year. The second one was much more reasonable... Allied Insurance, which turns out to be Nationwide. I'll let you know when I get the check how satisfied I am, but they do offer "trip interruption coverage" of up to $600 per day and they're replacing anything I couldn't salvage... But after all what is the real value of six pairs of unmentionables with glass shards in them.

I will get a new sewer solution and Oxygenics shower head.... and I couldn't get the centramatics, etc., etc., etc., ad nauseum.

I've been making a list and checking it twice... wish I'd kept a detailed log of all the stuff I'd bought over the years.
