Project insurance?

What options have members used to insure their "projects"? With the initial cost of the Excella, new frame materials, time and labor, and misc materials for deconstruction the overall total is getting in the area of needing some form of insurance.

We have State Farm, and were unable to insure it until we had it "75% complete and roadworthy". Once at that point, we were able to get the amount we had put into the trailer via pictures (lots of pictures) provided to the insurance company. We took a risk having the trailer sitting there for 4 years uninsured. It's a little scary when the tornado sirens go off!

There are 2 basic ways to establish what to insure most anything for.

1. The basic amount you have in the project.

2. The dollars you cannot afford to lose.

If you performed your own labor rather than hiring a contractor to do the labor, you probably won't be able to include labor costs in your insured amount. "Sweat Equity" is difficult to insure.

I never had a problem getting insurance. Normally, after getting the registration taken care of I just called my insurer and told them what I have and how much insurance I wanted. The bill came in the mail.

Two weeks ago I bought a trailer out of state. I called my insurer the day before I actually picked up and owned the trailer, gave them the VIN # and told them I was purchasing tomorrow. So I was able to insure before I owned.

If you have a title, the vehicle has been registered, and has a license plate, I would think you could easily get insurance.
