Outrageous Quotes? Or Just Me?

Hello!

We just purchased a used 2016 Serenity 23FB and I've been shopping for insurance. We have a very small camper that has been insured with USAA for a couple of years along with our autos and home so they were obviously my first choice. I received a quote of $1664/yr which I thought was absurd compared to our smaller camper and the research in these forums on what others are paying.

I decided to try Good Sam RV Insurance and initially received a quote of around $1250 which I still thought was high. Now it seems that any time I revisit their quote and try making changes (raising or lowering coverage) that the price continues to climb. It's now in the $1800 range.

I just requested a quote online from Geico but have yet to hear back.

I'm feeling rather discouraged at this point as I anticipated more in the $500-$600/yr range. Was I wrong for expecting this? Trailer is owned outright, credit is pristine, no tickets or accidents, nothing else I can think that would be driving up our rates. We live in San Antonio, TX (just offering up as I know insurance fluctuates from city to city, state to state)

Any thoughts or feedback would be greatly appreciated!

I say keep shopping.
We have State Farm with multi-discounts for our new 2017 26U.
$440.00/yr with deductible $2000 (just wanted catastrophic).
For $1000 deductible it was like $200.00/yr more.
I figure in 5 years I'll make up that difference (if no claims).

Do you live in the hail, tornado, hurricane,or flood areas that can happen every year ?
Do you travel in those areas ?

If so that would explain the high rates .

One hail storm and your AS is totaled.

Do you store it outside ?
If you do the best thing you could do is to get it out of the weather and into a secure structure.

There are a lot of fiddly details that drive insurance prices. In most states, it's a regulated industry. They file a "book" with the regulator that shows how they calculate the rates. Punch in the same conditions and you should get the same price ....that's also what lets them work out what the competition would be charging. ( You see that in various ads on TV )

USAA is Progressive. They stopped backing policies several years ago.

I pay about $270 per annum with Safeway for a 2017 model valued at $65k. The policy is linked to my primary vehicle. $500 deductible

I just pulled my Declarations Page and with $1000 deductible for Comp and Collision, 500/500 coverage and "Stated Value" of $45000 for our 2011 27FB we pay $141 a year. All our vehicles and home are covered by the same insurer, so maybe that's the key.

Something is wrong either with your quotes or my coverage. Wondering ...

Hi-We pay $700 annually for a 2016 23FB Flying Cloud with GEICO in southern California.
$500 deductibles.

It is listed as the third vehicle on our automobile policy.

That was a big raise from a 17 ft Casita fiberglass. Again that fiberglass trailer was about 1/3 the value of the AS.

We live in Atlanta and store our Agreed Value AS outside and insure with Nationwide for $450~

Check Nationwide and check FCIS in particular. They had a rep at the Escanaba International Airstream Rally last month.

Your estimate sounds very high.

Searching online leaves a trail of your ISP that's followable. DUMP IT prior to pricing searches. Amazon and others can track your activity and determine YOUR demographic (and price sensitivity) as a potential shopper - and other nuggets - usable to find which baiting will hook you. Airlines are probably the first big users of these technology to set pricing for airline tickets.

Do you think your Airstream is more valuable than your other camper? So does every insurance company that insures RV's.

Raise your deductible on first dollar loss that you're WILLING to absorb - that will lower the premium.

I just switched my auto insurance to USAA and they sent me to Progressive but with a "USAA" discount for my trailers.

I agree that something is changing to cause Agreed Value insurance for RV's to rise. I was with Blue Sky, but they stopped offering RV coverage recently and I am now shopping for Agreed Value insurance from others. I can't find anybody that will give me what I feel are reasonable quotes for my trailer. $38,500 is the appraised value and the quotes are over $850 a year. It was less than $500 with Blue Sky. I was told that Blue Sky exited because they were not making money, so there must be less competition and rates are set for those left to make it worth their while. My problem is I think it's too expensive for my needs. I had almost rather just put it on my regular insurance now and fight the battle if something happens that I need replacement. I can keep the appraisal current, and fight with the insurance company if something happens. Anybody else in this boat?

I have RV insurance thru Progressive, and only RV insurance. I have a 2014 International Signature 23D and got a Agreed Value policy. First year it was around $1000, and second year went down to around $800.
I used a independent insurance dealer to find the policy as I wanted Agreed Value and they came back with Progressive

try Wawanesa, then fine tune your policy: coverage amount, deductible, etc. There are a lot of factors, age, record, location, value of AS, etc. Just don't use a no name insurance in my opinion.
