I paid $74 when I first bought it for 9 grand. Then after $30,000 of repairs and I called back to up the value to $50,000. I just paid my $174 for the whole year not including the truck from Hartford sold to me from AARP. I live in Illinois. Good luck

Do you use an insurance broker for any other insurance If so, suggest you work through them for good advice.

We insure through AutoClub of SoCal (local AAA) and our premiums are under $200 and have been since we youth our 28' International new in 2009. But it is NOT a fixed value deal--AAA doesn't do that. The said that they would appraise it if we bring it in and assign a fixed value. As it is, we're insuring for what we think is higher coverage than what they will likely pay should we need it. Just complicated for us because we've moved off the mainland and it's not easy to get to the Airstream!

But the numbers you're hearing sound very high, UNLESS they are guaranteed at a fixed value. After all, a beater '87 chevy would cost less to insure than a new Corvette, right?

Progressive set me up with a policy that if it's a total loss within the first 5 years, they will just replace it with a brand new Airstream, same model. $1000 deductible $900 annual premium for a brand new 27FB Serenity. Even Geico could not match that and I have been with them for 34 years.

Yeah, these numbers are all over the place. We have a 2017 23D FC. We were shocked at the prices. We got a number of quotes and ended up insuring through State Farm for around $800/yr. we have 3 cars 2 trailers, two houses and an umbrella policy through them in addition to the AS. Good driving records and low claim history.
The only significantly lower price was from Farmers, but I started reading really negative reports about making/ collecting on claims.
My real surprise comes from the fact that while airstream are high value, there's much lower risk in the area of liability like with a auto.

Interesting info about USAA and Progressive. We got insurance with USAA on our AS in 2014.

Thanks for all the input! Definitely seems to be all over the place. After consistently getting $1600-$1800 quotes I finally called a Nationwide office down the street from home. First quote from them came in at $1664/yr. She asked me if she could check with Foremost to see if it was any better. Came in at $988/yr which while I still think is a bit high sure beat the heck outta everything else I'd received.

Agreed value @ just over $60k, $500 deductibles on comp & coll, $5k personal property (replacement cost), $10k vacation liability, $750 emergency expense, roadside assistance, and likely a Christmas card every year. lol

I knew what I was getting into (Airstream life) wasn't going to come cheap but I'd sure rather spend that money on cool stuff for the new toy. Oh well...life goes on.

Btw, USAA sends all RV policies to a special division of Progressive dedicated to handling USAA customer's. As I said initially, we've had our little Taxa Cricket camper with them for 2 years. Autos & home are underwritten directly by USAA. Sad that I was forced to go elsewhere this go-round but perhaps I should shop around on our other policies come renewal time.

Thanks again for everyone's input!

I was told that Blue Sky exited because they were not making money, so there must be less competition and rates are set for those left to make it worth their while. My problem is I think it's too expensive for my needs. I had almost rather just put it on my regular insurance now and fight the battle if something happens that I need replacement. I can keep the appraisal current, and fight with the insurance company if something happens. Anybody else in this boat?

I would urge you not to take this course of action. If your insurance company only offers a fraction of your appraisal value in the case of a total loss, and they can total it for a modest amount without Agreed Value, you are left paying a lawyer out of your own pocket to sue an insurance company that has a bank full of lawyers on their retainer.

You will pay cash up front to the lawyer and you will get 10K into the law suit before you know it. You may win, or not, and it will cost you more than 10k of anguish and upset. Take a deep breath, shop for the best Agreed Value policy you can, and pay the money, and go enjoy your beautiful Airstream.

FCIS Insurance was at Escanaba International Rally and the young man said that they write Agreed Value on several lines of insurance including the Nationwide one that I have.

I figure in 5 years I'll make up that difference (if no claims).

When I had State Farm they didn't have Agreed Value for the AS, so I wound up elsewhere. I'll have to ask my State Farm agent who has all our cars/truck/house etc if they have Agreed Value now.

Something is wrong either with your quotes or my coverage. Wondering ...

Yes there probably is. Stated Value is not Agreed Value. Sorry. Better check around.

Are you saying that you upped the value to $50,000 and they wrote you a policy with both AGREED VALUE and $50,000 shown?

If you just got them to up the value, and you don't have a certified appraisal on record, and you don't have AGREED VALUE written clearly in the policy, you have been mislead. I went through three insurance companies and their policies (3 one year coverages) before I got Agreed Value written in the policy with the appraisal value as the agreed amount. The salesmen told me one thing but when the full printed policy came in the mail it lacked a certain key phrase, Agreed Value!

They are slippery with their terminology and fast talking jargon but at the end of the day, if you have a big aluminum ouch, the AGREED VALUE statement is what will make the difference between aluminum scrap value and what you unit is really worth in the Airstream community.

I don't think USAA is a re-seller in this case, they have just made an arrangement with Progressive to sell policies to USAA members at a discount. I have to pay my premium to Progressive.

Assuming they did the same thing with RVs that they did with boats, all new policies from some date are issued by Progressive, but if you had a policy directly with USAA they will keep it until you change boats (RVs). I had a boat policy with them but my newer policy was from Progressive. If you go to the web site to get a quote for RV insurance you will get sent to a special site on Progressive for USAA members. Same thing with the phone number.

1st Renewal

USAA > Progressive > Full-Timer > 2017 Classic

My initial purchase premium of $1275 is up for renewal at $1446 next month; I'm shopping.

I couldn't beat Geico.
I've had my auto policy there for a while, and they rolled the AS into it.

Insurance updated

I had told you I had Hartford Insurance and I paid an additional $174 per year for covering my AS as an add on to my F150's yearly rate. After reading others opinions I thought my insurance was not adequate because of some agreed upon value in writing. Then, this happens. I had a bad polish job and my $4,000 polish job turns into a $17,000 worth of damage to the windows and panels. The insurance company paid for the repairs immediately. We're talking about a 1975 International AS that I have about 40 grand in it. If you're paying over $1,000 a year there must be something your not saying, like a DUI or a bad driving record. If not, please keep looking. Good luck.

Nope, no secrets or skeletons. Just a 2017 Classic. We added Full Timing, but that was only about $67. Our deductibles were down at $250, but usually, I pick a deductible that is equal to less than two years of premium payment differences to break even. I made a good list from reading through several threads and will report back.

The "agreed value" is a very important distinction. I just just finished shopping for a policy for my 2011 25FB Flying Cloud. The "winner" was a $40,000 agreed value policy from Progressive via Good Sam for $581/year. The initial policy that Good Sam was offering was almost half the cost, and there was a lot of talk about "as long as you have an appraisal, you're covered." My concern was that I do not want to get into a negotiation situation if I have to make a claim. The fact that the NADA values are so far below market added to my concern.
