Negotiating with Insurance Company

I own a 1975 31' Sovereign, a little over a week ago a Jeep Cherokee ended up parked in the curb side of the trailer. Sorry no pic. Hitting just aft of the main
door, wiping out the Battery Compartment and denting in the side about 2 1/2" from the plume position. A local trailer repair (Top of the Hill RV in Canby, Or) wouldn't even give me an appraisal for repairs. " I won't even guess at the cost knowing that the insurance company is just going to "total" the trailer. You really need to take to and Airstream Dealer/Repair specialists. You don't want to miss anything. Go to Sutton's RV in Eugene." Called Sutton's, they were glad to help, $14,768.99 later, I had the estimate for the insurance company (Safeco). Faxed the form, and waited to hear from them. Two days later I email Field Specialist ask him to check on the status. "This seems to be a very high estimate."

So now to the question I have, How do you negotiate with the company, without putting your title in jeopardy? I do not want to end up with a salvage title and I want enough money to get the repairs done.

31'er is a center bath, newly <1 yr a new twins in the back.
new AC < 1 yr old,
newer Dometic 2 way refrig <2 yr old
newer Furnace < 2 yrs old
newer Cat heater < 2 yrs old
new converter, new water pump, new 12 volt distribution panel, 2 new gel batteries, new pex through out the trailer.
New Gaucho.

Give me some hints please.

a salvage title isn't necessarily a bad thing on a 35+yo trailer...

IF you've got the documentation about HOW that happened.

ANY negotiation or supporting bids or long term solution planning need PICTURES...

take pictures and take a LOT of them.

you should also have PHOTOS of all the improvements and HOW those things have been damaged...

you've got receipts right?

and if WATER entry is now a risk get that STOPPED quickly, it may not be covered by the original insult/claim.

if the estimate is LIGIT and it's gonna take 14k $ to fix it, how's settling for LESS gonna get you there?

if the bid/estimate is hokey that's another issue.

if plan B is to try saving the 10,000+ in labor charges in that bid, by doing it some other way....

u might as well get the salvage title and settlement.

insurance folks are trained to say NO many times before getting to YES.

but if the used/street value (and paid coverage) is less that ~20k or maybe 30k $ a bid for repairs THAT HIGH is gonna total the unit.

we know nothing about your policy details (do you have a real AGREED VALUE policy)

but any USEFUL advice is gonna require MORE disclosure here....

policy info AND pictures.

all of the true things that i am about to tell you are shameless lies. l.b.j.

we are here on earth to fart around. don't let anybody tell you any different. k.v.
