Insurance - living in Canada 2018 Classic 33

We are going through the ringer with trying to get insurance for our 2018 Classic. Anybody out there in the same boat or any suggestions.

We have our 2016 insured with Intact through a broker in Wetaskiwin. Dyck Ins. I wonder if you are having trouble because of the hailstorm a couple of years ago that wiped out a lot of trailers in Calgary and Airdrie. Mine got it.

Try Explorer RV - they provide a discount to insurance cover with the same parent company which we found was well worth it. Also, for some reason, if you allow the insurer to access credit score the price goes down a lot.

Contact Wayfarer Insurance Group (affiliated with the Explorer RV. Club). They seem to specialize in RV insurance, I believe they may insure through Intact Insurance. We've been with them since we bought the trailer although no claims so far. I've heard their service is excellent.

I wonder why your broker can't help you. We also use a local broker, Elk Point Insurance, we tacked our '72 onto our wawanesa policy. Our 5th wheel is with Intact.
Good luck,
CC

No we have not had any issues adding and in fact I increased the insured value with the Covid inflation madness. However, there are two pieces of the insurance and the replacement value piece is on our home insurance policy. With this being your home I could see an issue. You need some full timers to speak up

We carry BCAA (AAA) I would think there are similar in Ontario ... we also have our car and truck insured with them and also RV roadside coverage. Completive pricing. We carry $50,000 cash value not replacement.

Full timing and insurance

We sold our home and full timed for 3 years. Without a land bound home, that also meant that we would not have the liability insurance that you have with a homeowners policy. Therefore after a search we wound up with Progressive for full coverage for the trailer. Then the addition for a few hundred thousand of liability coverage was very reasonable. Then we topped it off with an umbrella policy, just to be sure.

Normally your land bound HO insurance would cover your liability with the trailer. Too many litigation attorneys out there now to gamble on no HO coverage.

Not sure what the situation is in Alberta but here in Ontario I had a time getting insurances for my 2021 Classic 30RB because most insurance companies would not insure a trailer over $100,000 and as you know the Classics are well over that mark. Did get insurance through a local broker who used AVIVA but at almost $3,000 per year for full coverage.

That’s the situation I’m in. Our Flying Cloud was hit in that hail storm and now our insurance is almost 2,000 a year!
