I think I need a drink...
CNN yesterday or the day before had an article about greenhouse gases and particularly CO2 at the highest levels ever recorded... a large asteroid is recently seen whizzing by Earth at 56,000 miles out... scientists are currently trying to decide what effect the change in the ocean currents in the north Atlantic may have on climate... some saying that the next ice age could begin in as few as ten years... out of control nuke facilities... out of control governments...
And our electorate is largely clueless...
It's five P.M. somewhere in the world... happy hour... I think I need a drink...

To comment on Toaster's post:
I doubt seriously that we will ever see a full scale nuclear war. I think the odds are that there will be a conflict somewhere (maybe Pakistan/India), but for the larger countries, the threat of MAD (mutually assured destruction) in addition to it being such a global economy make the likelyhood of a major offensive remote (not impossible).
I would think that in this century, our greatest problem is with non countries getting weapons of mass distruction. Individual groups, be it terrorists, neo nazis, etc are the greatest threat. I doubt that all of any major city will ever be taken down....but it is quite possible that parts could and as such the insurance adjustments....see way back when in the cold war, when we had each other targeted several times over, our policies said, in the event of war, all bets off. Well, they still say that, but this new part clearly means to me that folks do think that isolated things could happen that are not acts of war, and as such need to be clearly defined as no one will be totally wiped out and the insurance companies would need to pay.
Again, just my .02

of course not, silvertwinkie...
.... or, certainly no more cheap or drastic than jaco's gibe. it's just that you probably agree with his opinion & disagree with mine. when it comes to politics, cheap & drastic is ALWAYS in the eye of the beholder.
you are probably correct in your analysis of today's nuclear threat vs. that of our parents. are we in more, or less, danger? probably more as individuals but less as a species? well, until some menace-minded miscreant catches up with me, i'm more worried about blowing my own self up before getting the hang of the propane tanks when I go to fetch Bambi next month.

Once we stopped laughing - because frankly if anyone detonates a nuclear device I think contacting state farm for reimbursement of our trailer will be the furthest thing from our minds - I thought man, that's really sad that they feel there is enough of a risk of that happening that they'd better exclude covering it now.
Yikes!

Look into the Verichip coming to a neighborhood near you!
If you have time, look into the "REAL ID", NAFTA, the BILDERBURG(ers), the cashless society experiment in Canada, and the elimination of our great nations constitution upon the next big event which WILL be coordinated by the leaders of the world! Not very cool if you ask us.
take a look at this video for fun: Alex Jones - Cashless Society « Really Good Movies Blog
Now, I dont give credance to everything this gentleman says... but he does ask some very good questions.

Insurance
The only thing insurance agencies insure is their own profitability. The list of exclusions is ever-growing.
Acts of terrorism have also been excluded from many policies. It isn't funny. It is scary.

I have come to regard insurance as legalized theft. The insurance industry's goal is collect all they can and not pay any claims.

Wow, this is an OLD thread! Can you believe 4 years have passed since they warned us about that, and my trailer still hasn't been nuked?
And I've changed to Progressive to get 'agreed value' insurance, because the only thing State Farm would 'agree' to is that if anything happened they probably weren't going to cover anything

Guess its time you get a new agent or make him read Progressive's own website. I had agreed value insurance with Progressive. I got an estimate of value from an Airstream dealer that my trailer was worth $17,000 in its pristine condition. I then got into a hail storm last summer on the road and did almost that much in damages to the unit. Without the agreed value policy, my trailer would have been totaled and I likely would not have received but a few thousand dollars for an '82 Limited no matter what its condition. As it was Progressive did not flinch, they paid the full amount of the claim allowing me to have the trailer repaired. When I did my research, Progressive was the ONLY insurance company with the ability and desire to fully insure older trailers for amounts much greater than the average book value of those trailers. In the case of Vintage trailers, they aren't even in the book.
Prior to this I had confidently kept a policy with Foremost thinking I was covered. It was here on this forum that a member proved to me that I was wrong. They may have allowed me to "claim" what my trailer was worth, but in the case of an accident it would have been next to worthless what my trailer was stated as "valued" on the policy. I did not have documented value by having an estimate of value on file and the wording of my policy was not what it needed to be to cover me in case of an incident such as I ended up experiencing. I had a "stated value" policy; not an "agreed value" policy. Thanks to this forum I listened and learned. Listening saved my trailer and my bank account.

Insurance company exclusions are no joke. The list of non covered events grows and grows. I have to buy separate home flood, hurricane, and mold/mildew coverage. They operate on about the same respect scale as casinos.
What they are telling the OP is that his trailer is not covered for a terrorist attack.

coverage and riders offered and even exclusions VARY from state to state.
so IF you like the agent ask them to double check this issue.
if u don't like the agent shop around.
i did ALL of the investigation and policy selection ONLINE, then used a local agent.
with this being one of the LEAST common policies agents sell,
a well prepared customer can know the specifics in greater detail than the agent.
it's good to see that steph followed up on this and made the move to progressive...
their 'agreed value' rider is one of the better versions available (price and coverage) and reasonably easy to add
cheers

Progressive had no problem with the age of my unit. I just called the 1-800 number and they passed me to a local agent. I have to get an appraisal done on it to seal the deal, which I hope to do this week. I've already located a local 'personal property' appraiser, that's one that does items, as opposed to real estate and houses, and talked to him and he has no problem appraising it at around $15k, which I think is a fair price for a fully functional and updated Caravel. It's about what I have into it!
I feel like the insurance is just there so that if something terrible happens and it is completely destroyed, I don't have to start over from scratch. I couldn't get State Farm to agree to anything except 'we'll figure out the value when you make a claim'. Well if it catches fire and all we have is a pile of ashes, how will I prove to you what condition it was in? They didn't even want an appraisal or pictures to keep on file or anything! Plus they were charging something like $20 a year, which tells me they see no value in the item, and will put up a big fight if it's time to pay out. Progressive is charging about $200 a year, which seems like a fair amount for what I am expecting them to pay out. And then we can go on about our business enjoying our trailer and hope we'll never have to use the insurance!
