extended warranty

Hello, new here, and just purchased a new 2015 signature 25fb.
I have a standard 2 year warranty, the sales people are suggesting purchasing an extended warranty, additional 5 years, making the unit covered for 7 years total. Price $3.000.00 CDN. I'm not familiar with the dependency of Airstream, and labour/parts costs.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

An underwriters cash cow. Better to put a few dollars in a saving account each month.

We purchased the insurance back in 2008. It was really difficult getting the policy information from the insurer. We never used it and I wouldn't buy the insurance the next time. We were pressured by the salesman to get it.

In Buda, Texas, when you buy a new AS, you get a 'lifetime' warranty! I think you are expected to do general maintenance as they spell out and that covers you. I don't know if you are required to return to them to get the repairs done...

Save your $3000 and put it in a bank account and pay your Airstream repairs from it. At the end of 7 years see how much is left. I would bet it will be a lot.

It is the same as at a car dealer, they tell you what a great car it is when you are considering purchase, then when closing they try to tell you what a POS they sold you and how expensive it will be to repair, and pay us more for insurance. Usually the insurance has so many strings attached to any coverage, essentially you wind up with nothing.

3000 for 5 years, mmmmh that's 600 a year. I am not the most handy person, so that would give me piece of mind... also, depends probably a bit on the proximity to your dealer.

Some of those carrier a high Ded, I have found out that if you have a problem with something the DEALER WILL cut you a good deal on cash to do the work.

So far we have had the following work done under our 2 yr warranty, replace the air conditioner, one fan, water pump, fresh water hook-up and Converter.

Because the Converter fail it destroy both batteries and they gave me two new ones.

AS is like owing a boat, "BREAK OUT ANOTHER THOUSAND"

Just a follow-up to our comment above . . .

Even though this is an old thread, this is an issue other purchasers of new trailers will have, so this is what happened in the end. When our warranty ended last year, we applied for a rebate since we hadn't used it. We got a significant amount of the money back. So, would we do it again? Yes -- if they offer a rebate at the end if you don't use it.

We have a 2013 truck (GMC 6.2L, about 55,000 km on it). Paul heard a knocking in the engine, so took it in. The engine needed to be rebuilt because the pistons had done damage. Luckily it was still under warranty. When we picked it up, we bought the extended warranty. Some things that go wrong are pretty darn expensive.
