Insurance is very much a state by state sort of thing. To sell policies in all 50 states, I'd bet you need to go through the licensing process in each and every state. Each state has rules about what you can and can't do / can and can't sell. They (obviously) have a lot of laws about liability and the like, those also impact insurance companies. Note: I'm not a lawyer, this is simply my take based on what I've seen.
As we've moved around over the years, the companies we have had to go to for various types of insurance have shifted with this or that move. The policies themselves (if it stayed with the same company) got re-written after the move.
Bottom line is: what you can get in one state may be radically different than what you can get in another state. What you get charged here may be 5X what you get charged for the same coverage from the same company over there.
We used to use USAA but they are no longer price competitive. I save a few thousand a year by no longer using them. It was a great company when I was young.
That’s the sad truth. USAA is a shadow of their former selves.
I had a Progressive "agreed value" policy. During year 10, I obtained an appraisal on my Airstream which I sent to Progressive. The company renewed my "agreed value" policy for another 10 years at the appraised value.
