Progressive is telling me that they did remove the claim from my record, but other costs have gone up so much that it is offsetting the amount our rates should have come down.

Are the rest of you seeing your rates going up dramatically (e.g., about $1000/yr) as well - or am I getting a song and dance here and need to start shopping around again?
I have USAA and used to do the Progressive thing thru an online link to their partner. I have had USAA since I learned to drive (40+ years ago) I also bundle everything with them - car, life, house, umbrella, jewelry, and ….camper. They don’t normally cover campers so I’m not sure if it is the 40+ years with them or maybe they didn’t want to share or maybe I caught someone napping - but they offered to cover my camper and in doing so beat the Progressive price.

Insurance on my 2019 25' FC

I've been insured with AAA for over 40 years, and when I inquired about insuring my Airstream trailer with them, they said they do NOT insure Airstreams due to high damage claims.
I'm sure that I contributed to those payouts, as AAA totaled 3 previous Airstreams I've owned and paid out nearly a fortune to fix 2 others, all from hail damage.

My AAA agent offered me a policy through Progressive, But I found I could purchase the same coverage from Progressive directly, by buying on line.

Still, insuring the trailer is more expensive than what I pay to AAA to insure my truck I tow with, both my wife's car and my car, plus 2 Mazda Miata sports cars.

I have checked with my present homeowner’s and car insurance company, and they were way higher than progressive. Not even close. It’s baffling to me how the quotes etc can be so different.

But then again it pays to shop around. But wow, 3 airstreams totaled. I can see why the company said no. I had a situation where we lived that my family with 3 drivers hit 9 deer in a couple of years. We lived out in the woods of Wisconsin. They cancelled our policy.

I'll tell you what happened a few weeks ago in NY... everybody's car insurance went up because of a new law opting everyone in to additional spousal coverage. Even those that are single! You now have to specifically opt out if you don't want it. Make sure theres nothing lurking in your policy you weren't aware of!

Welcome to CA - AAA jumped from $670 a year to $1100 for 2020 Serenity 27FBT. A 60 % jump in one year. Did get quotes from Sam’s and Progressive so far at $825 to $845 with more coverage so we’ll be making changes shortly. The insurance rates have become crazy. Any other recommendations out there.

Wow. We live in CA (Sonoma) have a 2014 27 FBQ and I just paid the bill, $335. State Farm. It didn’t go up from last year.

Do you any other items with State Farm or just your rig? Also is $335 annual or every 6 months?

We have all of our insurance through SF. $335 is annual.

Our 2024 International 23FB costs more to insure than our 2022 Coachmen Beyond (with full lithium package) did with the same insurance company (Progressive). I am surprised because the van was a vehicle that required liability insurance that the trailer does not require. It was also a more expensive RV. Such is life.

I too am a long time member/customer of (decades long) USAA/Progressive. I purchase my 2021 27 FC in Oct 2020. Premium was $693 for $1000 Deductible with Total Loss Replacement coverage with 25% decreasing deductibles per year (with no claims)

Oct 2020 policy was $693
Oct 2021 renewal was $832.
Oct 2022 renewal was $1008
Oct 2023 renewal is $1292! (Close to double!)

So I spent two hours on the phone with Progressive and ended up raising my deductible to $5000. BUT, with my 3rd year with no claims, I have 75% Disappearing Deductible. So my actual deductible is now only $1250.

My new Oct 2023 premium is now $780! A $512 savings. This may be one way to help offset these new premiums, if you have the Disappearing Deductible from Progressive, and have not had recent claims.

I have a declared value policy and mine has changed $14 this year. My tow vehicle insurance went up $140 a year which is a huge jump. I have lived in FL (Fort Myers for about 40 years) and then St Augustine for five years. I was here when the last spike took place after Andrew in Homestead. My homeowner policy in the nineties was $265 a year. After Andrew hit Homestead FL it took a few years but insurance companies adjusted rates in FL to recover. My home went to $450, then the next year was $700- all in a three year period, close to 3X what it was originally. The storm that hit Fort Myers has a lot to do with FL rates.

Insurance premium experiences

Enjoyed reading thru this thread. I'm surprised some of my fellow insurance agent/AS owners haven't responded. Insurance rates in all classes are exploding for a variety of economic factors, principally connected to the national government currently in place. As an independent insurance agent, we're busy remarking our customers, most of whom are seeing recurring sticker shock in their premium billing. Suggestions above encouraging your researching alternative carriers are well-founded. If you're in a captive company like State Farm or
Farmers, your own agent won't be able to mitigate your pain other than talk you into higher deductibles on the only policy they have available to offer you. Folks with independent agents, while free to check elsewhere, have the flexibility to have the existing agent shop inside his portfolio of companies-which is less effort and time-consuming for both the customer and agent's staff. I speak from my previous experience as both a captive agent and USAA client.

You make several good points. Thanks for some good ideas for action to negotiate lower rates. However insurance rates do not “explode” because of the federal government (regardless which party is in power). Insurance rates are determined primarily by three factors: claims experience (natural disasters, accidents, theft), underwriting capability (premiums received greater than claims made - Berkshire Hathaway is one of the few companies that usually makes a profit on underwriting), and investment of the “float” (premiums received and invested pending claims),.

Insurers exiting certain markets (CA & FL) are doing so for the first reason mentioned above. Increases in damage from wildfires, shifting patterns of draught and flooding, and hurricanes are the biggest factors.

WestieHouse, your reply is on target. Some blame whatever they don't like on the political party in the White House if they are of the other party. My Farm Bureau rates have remained fairly stabile.
