Airstream Good Sam Insurance

I just responded to a post regarding hail damage, and I am sure there are many opinions on this subject. In the past I have used Progressive, Farmers and now AAA. While these companies are great at bundling your home, auto’s, businesses, your life, RV. They might not be the best choice or offer the best possible coverage on one particular item. My biggest fear with the Airstream was hail. I went round and round with my insurance company trying to get a straight answer on this subject, and how they would value the AS if totaled. I never received an answer which I truly felt comfortable and confident with. A year ago I was introduced to Good Sam insurance which offers full replacement value for the first 5 years of owning your Airstream (new units) After 5 years, they will give you the purchase price you paid for your Airstream. At the time, I was under the impression that Good Sam was about 2X the price I was paying with AAA and couldn’t quite justify it. Yesterday I received a call from a Good Sam agent who gave me a quote of $1,480/year to cover my $112,000 Unit. This was only $60 more per than I was paying with AAA. The difference is AAA had a max ceiling of $100k on Travel Trailers. If my AS is totaled in the next 5 years, Good Sam will replace it with a new Airstream of the current year its totaled. After 5yrs, I will get $112k toward my next purchase. I did place a 1k deductible on the policy being I will never use insurance unless necessary. Having this policy will definitely allow me to relax the next time the sky turns gray and sirens start.

My Progressive policy for my trailer was bought almost 18 years ago. Like yours it was replacement in the first 5 years with like kind. After than point if it is totaled I would be paid my cost for my Classic Slide out, when at the time was 70K. If anything i'm not seeing it as much as getting back what I paid for it, but as incentive that Progressive would probably fork over considerable $$ to repair hail damage rather than taking the total route. On some Airstreams, like my slide out, it's one of a kind and once you get used to that extra living space, you don't want anything else.

I've never found a better price overall by bundling my trailer with my current home/auto policy. Same thing goes for my motorcycle too. I have a policy with Geico for it. Once you lump trailers and motorcycles into a bundled policy, you don't always get the best pricing/coverage offers with the trailer and/or motorcycle bundled into it. I won't compromise coverage for price only. That's why I decided on the coverage I want first. Then I shop bundles from different carriers who carry the coverage I am looking for. That's usually where bundling falls apart either from a pricing standpoint from a total cost basis.
