Well, after a few postings on eBay, it didn't sell. I wonder if the guy ever made a deal offline. Clearly, he isn't going to get his dream price......
Computers manufactured by companies such as IBM, Compaq and millions of others are by far the most popular with about 70 million machines in use worldwide. Macintosh fans note that cockroaches are far more numerous than humans and that numbers alone do not denote a higher life form. -NY Times 11/91

He had lowered the reserve after he had one bid. The new reserve was $170,001, and it was stated that the next bid would win it. But, no one else put in a bid. I would have, but my PowerBall numbers didn't come in!

In the auction, he didn't have an option for offers, but maybe, as you say, offline.

All one has to do is keep bidding it up until one sees the "Reserve Not Met" sign goes away. Then pray like you've never prayed before that Bill Gates is looking for the heaviest piece of aluminum ever sold on eBay and outbids you.
So...you bought a vintage trailer, did you, honey? Good deal, was it? Oh, just a couple of repairs, huh?

Drat, now our little Argy is starting to grow on me. I guess you were...were...were...right, honey.
