Value of Argosy MoHo?
My son is working out of town and discovered an Argosy MoHo behind somebody's barn in a field that looks "homeless". He said it's about as long as my trailer (so about 25' or so). I checked the vintage site about values but there was nothing about MoHos. I know that there are a lot of variables but any ideas on value from trashed out with blown engine to pristine diamond in the rough?

You might want to check out "Fred's Airstream Archives" it's more focused on motorhomes than the VAC or RJ Dial's website.

Also keep in mind that the purchase price is only a down payment.... the real value is in the aluminum!! One man's garbage is another alumaholic's gold! Got pictures? Details? Come on you started this.....

waiting for updates
I've told my son to be on the look out for rounded aluminum...or even just rounded since he works in a lot of out of the way places, sees people's backyards etc. He called last night to ask me if Airstream ever made motorhomes because there was this rounded Moho behind a barn in a field. I asked him to describe it and it was what you'd expect from a non-aluminaholic. I told him to get a closer look and see if it said Argosy or Airstream. He was able to get closer and called me and said it said Argosy. After he's done with the job he's going to try to track down the owner and see if they want to sell. He's a car-flipper so he knows the ropes but wanted to know what would be reasonable/unreasonable or even a killer price. I have no idea. I did go to Fred's but everything was sold. So, I still don't have any price range to gauge "reasonablity". The place where my son is working is about 2.5 hours from here and I'm not really in the position to run up for a looksee at the moment without better information. If the owner says, "oh that ol' piece of junk...$500" I'll be all over it as soon as I can. (One can dream). When I have more news, I'll post it.

But you should be able to gauge the price trends from Fred's site...it's at least something to compare to. If they sold at those prices...it was most likely a mutally agreed on, fair price ~ at least the "going rate" for comparison sake.

Inside: Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't find any prices. For instance, here's an ad for a '77 20', which, from my son's description is probably what the one he found is. There's no price. Just Sold.

Okay, well they don't all have prices I guess...but I went here: http://www.airstreammotorhomes.com/mh.html then scrolled down and clicked on the Argosy's "By Model" and most of the ones I looked at do have pricing info.
Another Idea: You may want to PM Fred H. (the website host) he is a member here on the forums (1985air345) even though I think he sold his MH. He is the most knowledgable MoHo owner I know of ~ no offense to the others, I just know Fred has been gathering info for years!

I'm here! I don't post the sale prices because the transactions are between private parties (like your local newspaper). Sorry. I just don't know them.
One critical piece of information missing is the length and year. The 20' units are hot right now. I have two people wanting one right now. Also, the floorplan does impact the price. They really do go for $500 to $9,000 depending on model, year, and condition.
The front grill tells you whether it has rear springs or air bags. Two lights indicates rear springs and four lights (high/low) indicates rear air bags with a smoother ride. MH Dating Tips

If it's been sitting out in the yard behind the barn I'd say $500 is a good place to start... good luck and please let us know what you find out.

A few notes on pricing.
Argosys seem to be going for $3k-$7k with very few getting to $9k unless they are in great shape.
The Airstream motorhomes have dropped recently to between $10k and $20 with nice well kept units and diesel units in the twenties. Some diesels are still nearing $30k.
I get LOTS in inquiries for the Airstream 250 unit. The shorter units are hot right now. The 250 owners always price them high and shock people. Supply (is low) and demand (is high)!
Center baths/rear bedroom are still the most desired. Rear twins are common. The center full/rear bath seems to be the least desired. The rear east-west beds (walk around) are desired. Corner full is ok (I didn't like it from my experience). Facing rear sofas are rare.
