I noticed when I got my
1967 Overlander that a similar, new Airstream was MSRPd at around $53,000. Although I paid a fair price for my Overlander, the cost of a new one helped justify the cost of proposed renovations.
My wife and I attended a local RV show last night for entertainment, and ideas (the Overlander is still gutted for bathroom floor replacement) and were shocked at some of the SOB prices – They are not that far away from Airstream prices. The sad thing was all the SOBs looked the same, as if one company built every single one of them, and merely sold them under various brand names. But, there were people all around getting excited about just about all of them (except the pop-ups).
Although Airstream was only represented by one Bambi, and one Classic, I felt myself starting to smile when they came into sight. Although I like the skin on my Overlander better (the new ones have a brushed appearance) there is nothing like an Airstream.
I guess it’s a good thing the ratios weren’t reversed – I might have never left…
