New Member Probably Old Question

Hi all,

New co-owner of a 71 Globetrotter and trying to get everything in order to register and get licensed. Since I am in NC, I pay a 1% tax on blue book on the trailer. NADA does not list anything older than 75...what is typically done to "help" DMV in this case assign this value?
Thanks in advance, already learning a lot on this site!

Google Airstream value,it will give realistic value,I would think bill of sale would be good enough for them on an older trailer, that`s the way it is here. Dave

I would pay the 1% on the 1975 value which would cost you seven dollars and some change. The NADA values are based on a fix depreciation and have nothing to do with the real value of the trailer. NADA says that a 75 GT is worth between $650 and $780, I would pay the tax based on those number.

They can sell for more than their worth. Don't bother with eBay sales for final bid price on similar units (hard to catch unless you're on it closely). Realistically it depends on condition and what you will have to put into it from your purchase going forward. What is sold as a restored trailer often is prettied up (nice shine job) without underlying values of solid floor or truly working appliances or fridge being addressed.

RJ Dial's site is based on him being fairly active following price trends. Says it was last updated August 2009 though. Read the red print just over halfway down the page. His site is here >> Price vs. Condition - Airstream Values

Thanks, great suggestion using the 75 value...I'll run that up the pole and see what happens. Thanks for the very fast replies.
