I think the year of the trailer is fine - from what I see and have read, there are no "bad" years and the vintage era trailers are fun! Two kids and a wife in a 21' trailer is plenty of room in my opinion. A 24' trailer for me+1 is so much space we're considering moving into it, so for a small family as a hard-shell tent plus amenities, I think you'll have plenty of space. I feel like $8500 is a lot, but when I think about how much time I've put into my restoration/renovation I think you are certainly in the "fair price" ballpark. I would want to pay less, but sometimes the extra price for a fully working piece of machinery is worth it. Maybe have someone in the area from these forums check it out before you buy to make sure it's what the seller says it is. If it is, you're looking at a lot of fun and great memories with your family. If not, you've got some negotiating room.
