HELP! I want to buy this damaged 1957 Caravanner
The curb side was ruined by an ash tree but the interior is all original, 2nd owner. Can I have new ribs fabricated or does someone sell them? $1000 and only 90 miles from the house and price is neg. I am stricken with aluminitis and my wife has not contracted it from me yet. So it will be a tough sell to her! Opinions please. Here is the CL link

benny,
What a heart breaker!! One of the best trailers made IMO. That being said I would run away unless you are good at sheet metal work. The ribs can be fabbed up and replaced, but everything else is stretched now. The price tag is probably nearly scrap value. There are, however several people here that would like to have the windows and other interior parts.

Oh man...it's tempting to try to do something with that. My wife has aluminitus and would be a hard sell...

This is funny,
I told this guy that I would buy the trailer, but needed a couple of days to get everyone together on it. We had 3-4 people wanting to go in on it. He told me that he needed an answer right away since he had a guy in Indiana that was willing to get it the next day. Looks like he was blowing smoke to try and get me to commit.

In his defense he told me that he was stood up by a guy that has a salvage yard full of airstreams in peru, indiana. the guy was supposed to meet him and the owner drove 2 hrs to his 91 yr olds fathers house who owns the AS and got a call from peru guy when he was 15 min from the 57 saying he was sick and could not make it.

This one was very popular for a few days - as I was talking to him (I was trying to figure out if it was better to part out or try and save) he got 3 other calls on different lines. Hope something good happens to it... regardless. Even as a parts trailer, it could live on and do some good.

Yes he told me about vintagetrailers.com in Peru, IN standing him up, but he told me that someone in Angola, IN offered him full price, and that he was waiting to hear my answer before committing to him. He said the person in Angola had restored over 60 trailers and planned to redo the entire project.
This project is a parts trailer. The amount of time, work, and MONEY makes it beyond repairing.

Well, if anybody here winds up buying it for parts, I'd love to pay $100-$200 for the streetside access panel / drip cap, and one of the smaller windows / drip caps on the curbside.

You would regret trying to restore this.
