Excella vs Excella II vs Excella 500 vs Excella 1000
Hey guys. Iv been looking around searching for a new AS. One thing Iv noticed is the "Excella" nameplate has been used quite often and seems to be one of the more popular models. My question is whats the difference in them? From what Iv seen, and what im guessing, the Excella looks to be the "base model" of sorts, then the Excella II, then the Excella 500, and the Excella 1000 looks to be the "Cadillac" of them all. I am probably wrong though! Someone enlighten me!

I believe it works that way; the higher the number the more standard options included. I thought that the "standard" excella is not necessarily the "base" model airstream. The "Cadillac" model would be the "Limited."
Of course a lot of the options that distiguish an excella 500 and a 1000 and a limited, etc are not always preserved with age. THings like fabric/flooring upgrades are irrelevant if you have to replace them anyway. My Limited came with the Nutone food processor thingy built into the countertop. It didn't work and I couldn't find parts, so in the remodel, I opted not to include it. Other upgrade that have survived in my rig are the "rattan" cabunet door inserts, and the wooden valences over the windows. Not sure on the excella range, but the limited models also have a different exterior belt/stripe and awning color. In the case of my '82, the belt stripe is black/woodgrain and the awnings are black/gold/creme. newer limiteds are burgundy/burgundy. Excellas are still blue/ blue.
I have also heard that the name/trim designations with particular models are inconsistent across various years. That is what I know.
I will be interested to see what other info turns up here!

From what little I know the Excella was the middle of the road model and the Limited was the top of the line. To some extent it is marketing hype.
Andy of Inland RV might be of help since he has been a dealer for decades.

I think that the Excella 500 was produced for several years in the 70s as a high-level trim. My impression is that the Excella 500s were all long trailers. Then they came out with the Excella II in the early 80s, and eventually just started calling those "Excella" and spreading the package out to shorter length trailers. Every trailer I've seen that says "Excella 1000" has been a triple-axle if I recall correctly.

Excella 500 was the top of the line 31' in the 70s. The Limited was the top of the line in the 80s and I think were 34' mainly.

I have seen a couple Excella 1000s that were 31-32 footers, but the 34' 1000 seems to be the norm

I have a 1989 29ft that has hardwood doors & cabinetry rather than the roll up doors. My title jyst says Excella. I've seen other models like mine that have the roll ups. Is mine an upgraded model? So confusing.

Our Excella is an 88. It had the Oak cabinets not the Tamber doors. I think 87 or 88 was the transition years away from the Tambers. I have another post with a tour video. Even back in the 70's it seemed the different models were still all close. Sovereign, Ambassador and Trade Wind were all similar just different lengths. We have some friends that have a 1976 31' Sovereign and the bath is on the street side not curbside and its all factory. I've only seen one other that was like that.

hello! i changed my 1995 excella classic to a mini Toy hauler. The back hatch makes ready for a motorcycle. I lifted it and that helped the whole ride. Polished. 50amp with two Air Conditioner. This is steal of a deal.
