Agreed Value Insurance documentation

I talked to progressive today to get an insurance quote on our '97 Excella. In order to have an agreed value policy, I need to show price documentation which is less than two years old. Isnce the trailer came to us through family, there isn't any purchase documents other than the original order form from 1997. Using the NADA website which Progressive will accept yields a value of around 13,000. That is half of what similar trailers appear to be selling for on the Airforums classified section and EBay.

Our trailer is in great shape and we are also in the process of making small upgrades to it.

Has anyone gotten an appraisal for insurance purposes on their trailer? Where did you find the appraiser? Any help will be much appreciated.

I got a local estate appraiser to do it. He came out and looked at it, talked about what it was worth, and I gave him some tips on where to find comps to come out to the number I wanted (and I wasn't going for an especially high number, so it was no problem). He sent back official looking paperwork with explanations and pictures of the comps that showed my trailer was worth at least what I was claiming on the agreed value.

Wait a minute!

Not to put these guys out of business...but, Progressive accepted a letter from my local Airstream dealer....Roger Williams my last one.....I asked them to write a simple letter to Progressive stating the value. As a great dealer they provided the letter of appraisal at no cost...I am a customer of course. A good dealer knows what our Airstreams are worth and will reflect that value in the letter. I picked up the letter and faxed it to Progressive. Done deal. No expense and everyone was happy.

I wish I had a good dealer in the area to go to. There are four Camping Worlds within three hours of me which happen to also sell Airstreams and service them, but I wouldn't look to them as knowledgeable about values. I wish I had a Colonial, or Roger Williams near me.

Well, there's a guy in Jonesboro.......

But, he wants $175 and you have to pull your rig over to his RV dealership and leave it for a week. I wound up not using him ('nuther story altogether that I'll bore you with in a minute). It's called Southern RV on Tara Blvd, right next to Browns Camping. I talked to him on the phone about an appraisal and he didn't seem like the, um, friendliest dude on the planet. This is the only guy in the Southside that I found to do an appraisal. And I called around to a lot of folks askin'.

Now the boring part. I had Progressive write my new policy in the spring (first time with them). I was initially told that I needed an appraisal, but after the paperwork arrived, there was no mention of a written appraisal. Back on the phone to them and they said I would only need an appraisal if I had a claim. So now I"m a little curious. I've seen several posts in threads here that match my situation (I've also read here that Progressive will no longer write "vintage" agreed value policies). Not to highjack your thread, but maybe call them back and ask the question again. You might get a better answer from the next rep you talk to. And no, I still haven't gotten an appraisal.

Sorry to muddy the waters even further.

Jim

Talked to them twice today, once to write the policy, and another time on the appraisal matter. I am trying to use a bunch of "For Sale" listings of comparable trailers.

But both times they mentioned that I needed some sort of appraisal within 10 days.

I would hate to have a claim and then have a denial because we hadn't mutually agreed to what the trailer is worth, and NADA is no help whatsoever.

I know what you mean. Part of the reason I was getting different answers may be because I was only asking for $11,000 coverage, about what I've got in mine. Maybe I need to call them back.
