1973 International? value etc.

I will make this quick and brief since I probably need to move on htis fast. I found what I was told a 1973 AirStream International. vin is 129T-3 S1994.
Clear coat has been removed and the whole thing polished. Inside by the door part of the floor was replaced with marine grade plywood. Top window was leaking but it is fixed now. New flooring and doors on everything. It has a D.C.to A.C. converter and a solar panel included. A.C. on the roof and everything works except the furnace. Electric jack on the front and twin beds in the back. It even has 2 folding chairs that match the upholstery. It seems like a great deal but any input would be great. I would be selling a 26ft. 1973 Argosy if I purchase this Airstream. The Argosy has no A.C. but I have a rooftop I was going to install this spring, everything works on it but it could use some TLC with flooring. I painted the top half 5 years ago and I was going to paint the bottom but hopefully will be selling as is. Any idea on pricing for the Argosy? The asking price on the 1973 International is $6500. Thanks for the help and have a great day.

I should also add that it has new tires, all the windows have new tint, almost all the outside lenses are new, there is a tinted shield for the front window, everything seems to be there, original and it is very clean inside and out. There is one hubcap missing and some light swirls in the finish but it is extremely shiny. I cannot figure out if it has a greywater tank so if anyone can tell me that would be great. I did get the gentleman to accept $5500. I have not seen any in my area for sale this clean in this price range. So I hope it is a good deal. If anyone can help me with information on this camper and if it is a good price please let me know and thanks again in advance.

P.S. not at home so very slow typing with the phone.

Grey tanks were not standard until 1974. You don't mention anything about an awning. The furnace will run you about $800 plus installation. I think what you meant was a converter which converts 110VAC to 12VDC. An inverter changes 12VDC to 110VAC. The only worry I would have is what the "new flooring" may be hiding. It may have more damage to the sub floor. Other than that concern it sounds like a good deal.

Yes there is a awening and it does have 2 batteries with a dc to ac converter. The floor feels firm all around the edges and looking into the storage compartments everything looks good. I did not see any tearing between the body and frame either it all looked solid.

You might want to read this article regarding price vs. condition.
Price vs. Condition - Airstream Values

According to the VIN you posted the trailer is a 1973 29ft. Ambassador International version with a rear bath and center twin beds made in Santa Fe Springs California, production number #1994 for that year.

I still think it is odd to me the vin 129T-3 S1994 looks like it should be a 1974 but the person selling says it is a 1973. Where or how can I tell if it has a grey water tank?
Here is the add which really doesn't say much but on the side of the camper it says International with blue trim going around it.
Nice condition w/new tires, new water, new digital antenna, new flooring and more. 29' long Landyacht Ambassador.

The number between the T and the S (3) indicate the year.

The trailer looks nice, but don't forget to check for worn axles and rear end separation.

Here is the VIN break down
I = International Version
29= 29 ft.
T= Rear Bath twin center beds
3= 1973
S= Santa Fe Springs
1994= Production number.
Look at the central control panel, if it has a grey tank there will be guages for a main and auxillary waste tank. You can also look at the waste dump valves, if it has a grey tank it will have two valves.

Looks nice. If I liked it, I'd buy it. I bet it's priced right. Anything I pay over resale value is opportunity cost.

That is a nice clean unit. Well maintained by the looks of things. The axles do look low so budget in for that if you are going to travel. I noticed a phone mounted on the wall which would lead me to think that is was or is being used as a seasonal camp site and not travelling. That will cause the axles to be frozen or set into place. IMO worth the negotiated price.

Just as a sidebar . . . Watch out for long distance deals. I want to see the trailer and the title before I part with any cash.

Canadian title problem.

I have run into a bit of a snag. The Airstream is from Canada, the gentlemen that owned had not planned on selling it when he was down here so now I have been scrambling to find out "exactly" what paperwork is required to transfer the title to a Minnesota U.S.A. title. All I have is the title. Anyone out there ever run into this problem?

I never part with cash until I see the trailer and the CLEAR title together. No deals with cash now and title later. There's always the risk of buying a stolen trailer or that the seller has title liens that can not be satisfied.

Your DMV will answer your title transfer question on the phone. It's probably clear title and a notarized bill of sale.

Do you have posession of the trailer and the clear title??

Hi there, 73Argosy.

I think that trailer has the air of one that has been meticulously cared for and treated very well. Just as an aside, the stripping and polishing that has been done to your trailer (assuming you sorted things out and bought it) runs about $100 a foot.

All the best luck with it!

Well after spending a whole day in the Twin Cities at the port authority with customs agents I finally was able to get things straightened out. If the last person to come and help me had been the first person I would have been done in 30-45 minutes instead of my whole day. Basically never by from a Canadian unless he has a import paper to the U.S.A. or things turn ugly. If he has it make sure that he and you at least right up some kind of bill of sale and fax that to the Canadian Authority's so that you can get a paper from them saying that it is not stolen etc. Thanks again for everyones help.
