1973 Argosy Value

I'm going to look at an Argosy tomorrow and wanted some help determining the value. Here is the Craigslist ad:

1973 - 23' Airstream Argosy Camper, ViNtAgE LoVe

The inside is all taken apart, but all the pieces are there. I want to fix up whatever trailer I buy, so I'd probably take a lot of it apart anyway. There's more details in the ad.

Is $3500 a fair price for the condition? If not, what is? Can anyone tell me what kind of repairs I might be looking at and what the costs would be if I did the work myself? What should I look for and what questions should I ask when I go check it out? I'm new at this, so any advice would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Well, I went to look at it and it was beautiful and in much, much better condition than I'd originally thought and I would've bought it for sure. Except when I got there, the sellers were standing there with a guy who'd walked up unexpectedly and bought it about 20 minutes before I showed up. I'm still super disappointed and bummed out. :-/ Can't help but wonder if I "let the cat out of the bag" by posting it here... Oh well.

Welcome to the Forums!

I really doubt that a Forum member sniped your trailer because of your posting (but never say "never")--you are better off blaming your hesitation.

If it is any consolation, in my opinion, a disassembled Argosy trailer that is something of an aborted project that someone else gave up on is probably over priced at $3500. The ad was down, so I couldn't see anything more about it.

Suffice to say, people are willing to pay a lot for anything that is Airstream shaped. I just saw a scrap metal wreck of a '72 Tradewind go for over $2k on Ebay. Someone is going to be profoundly disappointed...

Anyway, download a copy of the "buyer's inspection checklist" from the Portal page, and get ready to move fast if you see a trailer advertised that you are interested in--especially if the price is good. Have cash in hand and be ready.

Good luck!
