1966 24' Airstream tradewind double purchase

Hello,

I just bought a 1966 Airstream tradewind double. i was just wondering if i got a good price. i paid 10,500 he was asking 10,900. freshly polished and new windows. interior mostly gutted. Here are some picks let me know if i made a good purchase.

It's pretty outside, but if it needs appliances, interior, and possibly axles, I think it was way too much.

The under carriage looks pretty good. wheels and axles work pretty well.frame seemed strong.

At this point you paid what you paid. Don't worry about it. Your going to put lots more money in and lots of time.

You'll likely not get your money back unless your a renovator with all your own skills.

You'll have priceless memories camping and learn lots while working on it.

Have to totally agree with Hittenstiehl. At this juncture, just enjoy your trailer. Read through these forums on axles. They will be costly, but a needed investment. You have a terrific model - the curved Corning windows were only used three years and are a work of art.

It took me a month of hard work to polish my 68 Trade Wind and I never got it looking as nice as yours. I would not think about polishing one for less than 5K. It was hard, hot and dirty work. So look at it like you got the trailer for 5k and then had it polished! We used ours as an "aluminum tent" for a year as we worked on the restoration. I did notice the the lid for the bumper trunk and the bottom of it were mising. That is something that is prettty important for storage of the sewer hose and 30 amp power chord. You may have make a lid out of aluminium diamond plate as an original will be hard to find. Mine did not have a gaucho either when we bought it. I found a frame from a fellow here on the forum and ordered foam and built one. Although some folks will disagree, we love having the gaucho. I sleep there, watch movies, nap and when we eat inside the trailer we both sit and eat off a folding aluminum table (best money I ever spent at wally world). But, the gaucho can wait,get tires and axles and go camping. The more you camp in it the more you will be motivated to get on with the restoration. By camping in it before you do all the work, you will have a better idea of what you want to change and what you want to leave the way it is. We found that ours was well thought out and really works for us. We just strived to make it as orginal as possible and have not be sorry. We love the TW for a long list of reasons. I was in a super nice 2015 30 ft classic last fall and we saw and the owner concurred that we have more storage in our 68 TW.

I think you got a respectable deal. The polishing is NOT cheap, and there's no major dents. Sure, there's some stuff missing or yet to do, but I wouldn't call it "gutted" unless the bathroom is gone, too.

I am biased, but a 66 Tradewind is one of the best Airstreams ever. Nice polish job and l00ks like no major dents.

Camp in it and finish the job started. Don't hurry and do it right.

Replace axles at $400 per plus shipping (Colin Hyde Trailer Restorations). Do it now plus address subfloor. Enjoy it!

If it's missing the water heater or the furnace, it's no biggie. The old ones would have needed replacing anyway, and now half the work is already done for you!
