1946 Spartan, damaged value. help
I have an opportunity to get a 1946 spartan for 500$.
It needs new wheels before it can be moved. Its interior is terribly, there are a decent amount of holes, it is missing 2 windows.
Not sure if I can even safely move it, but it is in my neighborhood.
What value do you think this is? Is it a normal price, or would have I have to be crazy to pass this up?
thanks!

Ok so here is my take.
VALUE? It will be worth way more than $500 if you restore it, and is currently worth nothing if you can not use it.
It is going to cost you waaaaay more than just money to restore it. Tons of hours of labor will be needed.
If you have the skills, money and time to take on this project, then it’s a great Deal...
If you are going to quit this project half way through then you are better to leave it where it’s at.

Unfortunetly I don't have more detailed photos on hand or photos of the inside. But essentially I will have to gut the whole thing to do anything with it. Was considering turning it into a chicken coop or if I want to dive into a huge project a cabin.

Pay the $500 and worry about the rest later. That's too good of a deal to pass up.

What's it weigh?

Thanks for all the replies. I really appreciate it.
I wonder if even after I put new wheels on it wether or not the axles will even turn or if I can even safely tow it the 100 yards to its new home.
It will probably be a lawn ornament for a while until I get the time to put it to good use.
I wish there were more bluebook values for vintage airstreams. I found one list, but this model was not on it.
I'm half tempted to get it, put wheels on it, clean up the outside and post it on craigslist for 1,500.

Hi
It's a good bet that the axles are gone along with some of the frame. That's not a certainty, just a good bet. Moving it without doing damage will require a deep dive into what's what.

Flat bed trailer may be a good idea... plus a dozen or.so strongback friends. Think moving stones for the pyramids.

If you want it I would put a set of tires and wheels on it and pull it the 100 yards to your house. Helped a friend pull one 1/2 mile after he put some air in the tires so he could get it to a tire place to tires put on it. The wheels broke loose when it started rolling. Good luck and more pics.

Remember that Spartans weigh much more than Airstreams which may impact your tow vehicle. Also remember if this is a "park" model which most were, it does not have black or gray water tanks. I'd check with some Spartan folks before you invest much time, effort or money in this huge project.

I paid $1000 for mine 8 years ago. The exterior is in very good condition, the interior is mostly trashed. It had been used as a hunting cabin and had been sitting in the bush for many years. A friend and I checked the bearings and I carefully towed it about 300 miles on the tires that were on it. I just noticed today that those same tires are still holding air! The brakes worked when we hooked them up.
These are very cool trailers, and 1946 was the first year they were made. Someone offered to buy mine from me just this week, but I'm keeping it as a future project.
I'd say go for it! But if you decide not to restore it try to sell it to someone else rather than turning it into a chicken coop. Take a look at some restored Spartan Manors and you'll see why!

You better get it. It should roll that far with tires and rims.
