What price should I pay for an Inspection ?

Hi y'all,

From the UK, and on the journey to purchasing an Airstream.

My father in law works for a shipping company, and can get a trailer on for us for free from FL or TX.
So we're looking to purchase in the US.
We know what we want (31 ft upwards) fixer upper , and it's hard to find them in the UK , in fact anything over 28 ft seems to rarely come up.

We're going to be looking for someone to inspect the trailer, and make sure it actually exists, is towable.
I looked at local mobile mechanics to see if they offered this service, and was quoted prices in excess of $200 + travel expenses.
Would y'all say that is a fair price?

Am I better off paying someone on this forum to take a look, as they may have more experience with trailers than a regular car mechanic ?

Some will inspect if in area for little cost or if out of area not to far will do reasonbly because of love for AS trailers

Only advice I got is make sure who ever inspects is a true expert on Airstreams! I was such an idiot looking back ... I used someone I found on Craigslist , it was pure luck my trailer was in good nick. This guy was clueless on where to look for floor rot.

If you're shipping from TX, would your trailer be going thru the port of Houston? Bob Jones RV is an RV repair shop who works on all kinds of RVs, but they specialize in AS. They are located in South Houston, just across I-45 from Hobby airport. If you need their contact info, PM when you're ready. We can give you contact info. They installed our new fresh water tank and axles.
