Scammer?

I am a brand new member here, and have posted a trailer for sale. I immediately received an email response that stinks of scam. Refers to the trailer only as "the item", can only pay with Paypal, is an offshore engineer, and wants to purchase "the item" as a gift for her brother. Once the Paypal payment is sent, will send a "pick up agent" to retrieve "the item".

Anyone else been approached by labra0909? Aka Gloria Labrado
I emailed back that she will need to send the Paypal payment to her "pick up agent" and have him or her bring the cash, as we will only accept cash.

If this is, indeed, a scam, I would like to report it. Any suggestions?

Thanks!!!!
Mary

Definitely a scam attempt. The story has become all too common. It seems these folks have a limited imagination.

The best way to have reported it, I would think, would be to wait for them to give the paypal payment email then forward that to paypal security.

We should start something along the lines of 419eater.com. An online club for people who scam scammers - not for money, just for hilarity.

The 419eater crew specializes in making fun of the Nigerian scammers that promise a share of xxmillion $$$$. Their website makes for some amusing reading.

Welcome Mary,

First, best of luck on the sale and finding the right, new one!

Second, yes, definitely a scam. So sorry that this tactic is often a part of selling online. A couple things to remember:

- It's best not to reply to these at all. If you must, always do so through something like this forum NOT with your actual, real email address. These messages are typically computer-generated. Replying just alerts them that they have reached a real person.

- If you did use a real email address, change ALL of your passwords now!

- Make sure your anti-virus software is running and up-to-date.

- If they replied to you through this forum, look for the red, "caution" triangle at the bottom left of their user info to report them to this forum's moderators.

Craigslist has some great info on avoiding and reporting scam/spam/phishing emails:

craigslist | about > scams

Hope this helps,
Liz

Thank you, everybody! I did reply, but when they wanted to send a Paypal payment, and have their "agent" pick it up, I told them it is a cash only sale, and so they would need to send the Paypal payment to their agent and have them get the cash. Haven't heard from them since.Hopefully, it won't generate a virus or something. Ugh! I did talk to Paypal, and I guess what they will typically do is say they sent a payment, then send a fraud email that is supposed to be from Paypal that says the payment is being held until the item is delivered. That is the email that Paypal wants forwarded to spoofs@Paypal.com, but this deal never got to that point. Predators! Bah!

I got the same email saying they would like to buy my item with PayPal and how much is it. I told them it's $100,000. They agreed and wanted the trailer delivered.
Will not answer them anymore and changed passwords.

YOU better pay attention

What THEALT said in the above posting. You answer some of these folks and your computer and you are nailed. As much as you want to get at the Scammer....YOU are putting yourself in jeopardy. Report them, block them and forget them.

Reporting Spam?

I've noticed there seems to be more spam on the trailer classifieds since the switch to the new format. How does one report a spam seller on the classifieds?

Use the "contact us" option at the bottom of this page to bring it to the attention of the moderators. Please include a link and/or enough info that we can easily locate the ad. Also include any info as to why you think it's spam.

The site team is considering ways to make the Classifieds ads less attractive to spammers....

In the meantime, please report anything you find suspicious .

Thanks
