Rationing Next?
Ike is just off shore and coming in tomorrow.
This morning on the Atlanta news a story about 10 gallon limits in North and South Carolina.
In talking with my wife about this she mentioned that there were at least 35 cars lined up at Walmart last night to get gas.
We looked at each other, put on our shoes, grabbed fuel cans, one diesel, two gas, and headed out to fill up the pilot and the cans.
We needed some breakfast, so "let's go to the pilot truck stop where they have Mickey D's."
Wow, $3.54. That's how much it was at Walmart last night. Filled up the Pilot and got 1 and a half can filled and hit the $75 pump limit. Tried to reset the pump; but the computer was doing something weird. Ahhhh there it goes. Only need another couple of gallons to fill up the last can. Start it pumping again and while it is doing it's thing, I looked over at the price. $3.99 Yes, $3.99
Went ahead and finished out the can. Wife went in to complain about what happened and there was a near riot going on. Seems folks that had prepaid at the lower price went out to pump and the price had skyrocketed. LOTS OF YELLING and irate folks.
Finished our business and drove to the Mickey D's for a burrito. The girl there, who had an inside knowledge track, as she talks to the Pilot folks 30 feet away, advised that by the end of the day it will be up to $5.09.
Whoa................

I hate to say this - but this is the reason I have my Airstream parked in Florida. I truly miss the travel and the places and sites (all over this country) that I have seen, but I now drive my economy car to Florida. Now I have to be concerned about Hurricanes. It is hard to know what do do, isn't it.

Keep in mind that the price of oil, under $100.00 a barrel, and gas, $2.75 a gallon, have both dropped today on Wall Street.

Yup- Here is todays closing in NY. Stations can charge whatever they want here in CT, so I guess thats true else where. Big storm coming means big profits for some. Today has to be one of the biggest one-day increases in history for the consumer.

oil companys and government!!
How come 10-20 years ago, when the hurricanes came thru, there were no price increases in fuel? This was never an issue back then. And the storms always came, year after year. All of a sudden,The last five years or so,the oil companys and government take full advantage of any natural or man made disaster to take full advantage of us.seems kinda strange.I for one will not buy gas from any foreign company, and make it a point to stay out of WALMART!! I know its hard, we all have to stop buying foreign goods,WE ARE LOOSING OUR COUNTRY!

In a nutshell? Consumption has increased and production hasn't. BTW most if not all oil companies buy crude on the open market so you really don't know where it comes from. We only produce 25% of what we consume...

While I was fueling today I was talking to a truck driver who reminded me. During the Phony Gas Shortage of 73 crude hit $100.00 a barrel and we were paying $1.75 at the pumps. Now crude is at $100.00 a barrel and we are paying a bit more.

I am with you, evelitalian! WalMart got it's start claiming to sell only goods MADE IN AMERICA. You would be hard pressed to find anything sold there that is made in USA. We ARE losing our country, and it's our own fault for always buying what is the cheapest!

Factor in inflation. $1.75 in 1973 is equal to over $8.00 now. I think you're getting a bargain.

Shortage in East Tn. I work part time at the local Walmart. Last night when I left work at 6:30pm gas was 3.44 a gal. When I arrived at 7:30am this morning it was 3.66. I went out for break at 9:30 and it was 3.86, and then at lunch, around noon, it was 3.99. People were lined up half a mile. When I left there at 4 and drove toward home, the gas staions next to the interstate were 4.69 for regular. The town I live in, Kingston, only has 2 stations with gas left. The exxon was 4.59 with only high grade left which is 4.69 and Shell was 4.62 for low grade. They are telling us that it may be Tuesday before there will be any more available.

We are supposed to be hitting the road in two weeks for the West coast with our trailer, this may put a crimp in those plans. At the very least, I think it firms up my choice to go up to I-40 and across the country, rather than across I-10.

Hi cameront120;
Inflation Factor was created by NAFTA and the opening of trade with China. I refuse to buy anything for my own use that is made in China.
If all of us felt that way, the inflation factor could not find a root in USA.
After all it is our money that put China on the market map. Thanks, "Boatdoc"

Service stations in our town were crowded yesterday due to rumors I suspect. No price gouging was observed by us. Today may be another story and it'll be interesting to see if some pumps closed due to the rush.

Last night our Sheetz gas station had huge lines and ran out of gas..... $3.65
Drove to Wal-Mart up the road, $3.89 a gallon, lines there too.
On the way home yesterday, the station below the house was $4.95 , have not checked this morning.
Dang...............
Don't tell me, every time we have a gulf storm prices will rise this fast!

So, there's no inflation without China? What about the difference in prices for goods over time before China came onto the scene?

china goods!
I for one would rather pay triple the amount for a well made product than buying any of the crap from overseas. As tempting as is to buy one of Japanese cars,I as a union member cannot do it.we have sent our high paying automakers jobs overseas, everytime you buy one of those foreign cars or their products, you will elimate a future job for your kids.Fortunate for me I work for the railroad, they cant send that job anywhere.beleive me,if they could they would.
